User interface design & customer research for the Web, the desktop and more

Free samples: Good for farmers' markets and good for your Web site

Free samples of jellies, which encourage customers to buy.

I talked with farmers' market vendors about free samples last summer. The woman who makes these jellies offers  samples because "I know they'll like what they buy, and eat all of it." A cheese vendor said, "I sell out of whatever I offer as free samples."

What do you give customers  before requiring payment or registration? They may also be more likely to buy if they can sample first. Customer research is one way to find out if your "pay wall" is in the right place.

Design Workshops

A Group Design Workshop
helps your team think hard about  business and user needs for new products. It's more than just brainstorming, though. Participants talk about personas, product requirements and their own assumptions, and then sketch out ideas to begin the design process. Drawing makes them think harder and helps us create prototypes faster.

Clients say it uncovers new ideas, and is stimulating and collaborative. It's a great way to start your next project.
