At the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 22 the Hamline School of Business will celebrate the accomplishments of over 375 graduates from the graduate programs in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, and Business Administration and undergraduate programs in management and economics.  Our graduates will take many paths away from Hamline after the ceremony - to work, internships, back to native homelands, and off to other parts of the country.  Graduates, wherever you go, the School of Business gives you our best wishes and you are welcome back any time.  Be sure to stay in touch via our newsletter, the HSB alumni web site, and the Hamline University web site
 
  
Cathy Gustafson Named Industry Leader
 Gustafson
Minneapolis - St. Paul Business Journal has named Cathy Gustafson, director of the Master in Nonprofit Management (MNM) program, an Industry Leader at its annual Women in Business Awards Luncheon.  Cathy provides overall leadership for the MNM program, teaches Human Resource Management for Nonprofits and the Nonprofit Capstone course, and advises and connects with prospective and current students and alumni.

Jim Bonilla Featured 
 
HSB Associate Professor of Conflict Jim BonillaStudies Jim Bonilla was featured in an article on Building Diversity in the May 2010 issue of the Journal of Municipal Sewer and Water. In it he discusses the changing demographics, its implications for the aging public sector workforce and the need to benefit from diverse work teams. He is also quoted addressing how to break down organizational barriers, the role of mentors and rewarding as well as keeping top management accountable. Read the article on the Journal's site
City of Excellence Awards

The League of Minnesota Cities will Jim Scheibelhonor cities with their annual City of Excellence Awards.  Winners will be chosen in each of three general population categories.  A single award will also be presented in this year's Topical Category, "Cities Matter-Communicating and Demonstrating the Value of City Services."  Each first place-winning city will receive a cash prize of $1,000, a commemorative plaque, and special recognition at the June 2010 LMC Annual Conference in St. Cloud.  Winning cities will also be featured in LMC press releases and other statewide publicity efforts.  HSB Executive in Resident Jim Scheibel will be an evaluator and promotor of these awards.  Learn more. 
Public Works Certificate Graduates Celebrate
 
The Minnesota Public Works Leadership Academy graduated it 4th cohort in May at the American Public Works Association annual conference in Nisswa, MN.  The program allows leaders in the public works field to come together to discuss managerial and leadership issues within the field.  Participants also could have the opportunity to earn graduate credit.  Learn more about the certificate program or click on the photo for a larger image.    

MNPWA Grads

The certificate program is coordinated by Bill Joynes - Associate Professor and former City Manager of Golden Valley.  While at the conference Bill presented on the subject of "Where Public Works Stands in the Public Eye."  
 
Fall MBA Electives Filling Fast
 
As announced last week, the School of Business will offer MBA students the opportunity for fall electives in India and China.  Other MBA electives are filling fast so be sure to submit your applications for travel or register for your desired elective as soon as possible.  Please contact Joe Crosby if your desired concentration/elective course is full, to be added to the wait list.
