Happy AnniversaryOn April 23, 2008 the Hamline School of Business was officially established.  Two years later, with an increase in full-time faculty, a robust and thriving MBA program, the opening of our Minneapolis Center, the strengthening of our undergraduate BBA and Economics majors, and the formation of the undergraduate degree for working adults, enrollment has increased to almost 1000 students.  Thank you for all you've done to make the School of Business successful!
Congratulations to Senior Business Major Job-Seekers

Now is the time of year when graduating undergraduate students secure jobs and post-graduate plans are made.  Congratulations goes out to:
 
Alyssa Grassmyer, Business Administration major, for accepting a fulltime Assistant Management position at Maurices. 

Ben Swinton, Business Administration major, for accepting a Marketing Specialist position with WW Johnson Meat Company.  He earned the position after interning with the company.
 
Tasha Simmons, Business Administration major with a concentration in Management, for accepting a Management Trainee position with Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  Tasha earned this position after a successful internship.

An Earth Day Marketing Trip

On the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, April 22, Jim Hagen's Marketing Management class had an inside look at the environmentally acclaimed Jackson Meadow housing development at Marine on St. Croix.  Developer Harold Teasdale spoke to the class that day about the idea behind this project which emphasizes  many energy-saving and other "green" features in the houses as well as preservation of common open space and the natural environment. As green marketing continues to gain importance, Teasdale told of the shift away from selling prospective  homeowners on the large number of square feet in a house to featuring the lifestyle benefits that come in well designed houses in communities that preserve the naturally beautiful landscapes. 

MNM Student - Alumni Networking Breakfast

Students in the Master in Nonprofit Management are invited to join MNM alumni at Louisana Cafe on May 4 from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.  Students and alumni will have the opportunity to network and socialize before hearing from Janice Downing on The Business Case for Diversity.  Visit the event flyer for more information. 
Rethinking your Core: Business Opportunities in This Recession
 
HSB students are invited to attend a workshop organized by The Caux Round Table and the Hamline School of Business.  The workshop is May 7 at the Hamline Minneapolis location from 7:30 a.m.  - noon.  HSB students and alumni can attended for the discounted rate of $50.  Contact Bridget Knisely if you would like to attend. For more information about the workshop, including full speaker information and topics covered, please visit the workshop web site.    

Walkington and Norman-Major Present at ASPA

Kristen Norman-Major, Chair of the SwanHSB Public Administration Program and Thomas Walkington, adjunct faculty member, attended the 70th anniversary, 2010 ASPA National Conference in San Jose, CA. April 9-13. The theme of the conference was "Invigorating Public Service for Change." 

The ASPA Conference is a place for Tom Walkingtonpractitioners, academics and students come together to share ideas and build relationships that lead to improving public management in the U.S. and the world.
Kris Norman-Major presented a paper on  "Social Equity in the Public Administration Curriculum." It was included on the panel Social Equity and Public Policy: Theory and Practice. Tom Walkington co-presented a Best Practices Workshop on "How to Lead Organizational and Cultural Change to Achieve Results for Customers."
 
Dr. Walkington serves on the National Council and participated in several leadership meetings setting the strategic agenda for ASPA moving forward. The theme is "ASPA on the Move." The MN Chapter of ASPA is also "On the Move."  Adjunct faculy member Dr. Ellen Dosdall is interim president of  ASPA's Minnesota Chapter. Interested in getting involved? Next Tuesday marks the final faculty-student luncheon of the year. HSBG (the undergraduate Hamline Student Business Group) is hosting the luncheon as a final

In addition, Washburn High School Foundation provides post graduation scholarships. Washburn Foundation supplements underfunded or non-funded programs offered at Washburn High School. Graduate Teaching Assistant, Hamline School of Business
Under the supervision of the Bill Joynes, the Teaching Assistant has the following responsibilities:
 
1. Provide teaching assistance for coursework and certificate programs
2. Provide grading support for courses in public sector negotiation, mediation, human resources, and municipal/county administration
3. Assist with coordination of certificate programs in public administration.
 
Skills/Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree required. Completion of at least one term of graduate coursework preferred.
2. Excellent verbal and written abilities to communicate with students, faculty, staff, and administration on a daily basis.
3. Strong analytical skills necessary. Attention to detail and excellent organizational ability
                                  
Number of hours per week/length of position:
