HSB Strengthens Connections with Italy

Modena

Associate Dean Nancy Hellerud recently returned from Modena, Italy, where she took part in a signing ceremony to mark the expansion of our international cooperation with the Universitá Degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia.  Within the Universitá, the Fondazione (Foundation) Marco Biagi promotes international and comparative research in the field of labor relations.  Its activities include masters programs, a doctoral research school, internships, publishing of book series and journals, and international conferences.

The signing ceremony was an event at the 8th International Conference in Commemoration of Marco Biagi.  Professor Biagi, for whom the foundation was named, was assassinated in 2002 and the conference is held each year to continue his model of teaching--the bringing together of a diverse group of scholars (experts to graduate students) from across disciplines (economics, law, IR, business) and around the world to focus on a specific topic.  This year's conference was on "Rethinking Corporate Governance:  From Shareholder Value to Stakeholder Value."

The cooperation agreement with the Fondazione Marco Biagi provides for the exchange of graduate students and faculty for courses, lectures, internships, and research projects.  HSB has already played host to a number of visiting scholars from Modena, both faculty and students, and we are looking forward to the arrival of a doctoral student next month. HSB faculty have lectured in Modena on a variety of topics. Modena is also the site of an International Seminar in the MBA program on International Human Resource Management.

MBA Alumni/Student Networking Event

"A large portion of people hired recently have personal connections to a company. For years people have been saying networking, networking, networking. If there ever was a time that this was true, it's now."
"New Year, New Rules," Wall Street Journal, December 20, 2009.

Please join us for the first MBA Alumni/Student Networking Event. This will be a great opportunity for you to catch up with old friends, meet new ones, build your network, and represent your organization as you help to build a strong HSB presence in the community.

This is an informal event where you can enjoy good conversation, refreshment, and prizes!

Date: 5:00-6:30, Thursday April 15
Location:Atrium, Minneapolis location
RSVP by April 1 here

First Professional Development Seminar a Success!

The School of Business hosted the first in a series of professional
development opportunities on March 18.  The seminar "Rewarding Healthy Behavior" was held at the Minneapolis location with outstanding results.  The participants gave the workshop very high scores for the information shared and materials received.  Most importantly, every attendee responded 'yes' when asked if s/he would recommend the seminar to a colleague.

There were other positive outcomes resulting from the seminar as
well.  HSB faculty and staff had the opportunity to highlight
our programs, including the new undergraduate degree completion program, when they joined the participants for lunch.  This informal setting allowed for good conversation, which ended with two participants expressing interest in learning more about the MBA program.

The next workshop,"Leading Strategic Projects:  Best Practices and
Top 10 Tips for Project Management", is set for Tuesday, May 18, 2010.
