Hamline Dialogue: Cross Sector Leadership in the Twenty-First Century
The Hamline dialogue, "Cross-Sector Leadership in the Twenty-First Century" was held on October 26. The School of Business would like to thank our panelists seated from right to left, President of the Bush Foundation Peter Hutchinson, Buffalo Wild Wings Vice President of Marketing Kathy Benning, Fox 9 News Anchor Robyne Robinson, State Senator Ellen Anderson, and State Representative Nora Slawik.

Sigma Beta Delta Inductions
On Wednesday, October 21st, the Hamline School of Business inducted its first classes into the school's academic honor society, Sigma Beta Delta. Twenty students were honored, eleven seniors and nine juniors, for their academic achievement. Professors Gunderson, Lehmann and Reardon, officers of the local chapter of Sigma Beta Delta, conducted the induction ceremony. The inductees were joined by more than 60 guests, family, friends and faculty members of the School of Business. Following the ceremony, a reception was held for inductees and guests. Sigma Beta Delta is the international academic honor society for student of business, management and administration. At the ceremony Dr. Larry Kuusisto, Vice President of Education, LifeSciences Alley and Executive Director of Alley Institute gave a challenge to students to continue their quest for achievement beyond university life and Dean Julian Schuster congratulated the students and conveyed how important it is for the new School of Business to recognize outstanding academic achievement. Vice President of Academic and Students Affairs Dr. David Stern also spoke to the group to emphasize the university's support for promoting scholarship.

Craig Waldron is Featured Presenter 
Craig Waldron, instructor in the Master in Public Administration program, was a featured presenter at the Sensible Land Coalitions Seminar: City Confidential:Doing More Without Digging Deeper. Craig discussed what the State cuts and the economy has done to cities and how they have been reacting to the crises.

Announcing the Graduate Student Conference Fund
The Office of Graduate Student Life is pleased to announce the creation of the Graduate Student Conference Fund to support Hamline students as they pursue academic, professional, and artistic endeavors outside of the classroom.
The Conference Fund is designed to provide one-time funding to assist individual graduate students in attending appropriate academic and professional conferences, workshops, or meetings. Grants will be awarded up to $150 and are meant to reduce the student's expenses, not to provide full financial support for the activity. Grant monies may be used to reimburse registration fees, travel, lodging and food expenses.

HSB Visiting Faculty Positions
The Hamline University School of Business invites applications for two visiting faculty positions for the spring 2010 and fall 2010 terms with a possibility of renewal. There is also a possibility of course assignments in the summer 2010 term. Read more about the openings here.

Winter/Spring Registration Opens on November 16!
J-Term and Spring registration opens on November 16. At that point, students will be able to go to Piperline and register on-line. Most classes are already on the Piperline schedule so students can search for courses.
International Seminars The spring schedule will include MBA international experiences. Those programs are waiting for final academic approval. Watch this space for more information about those offerings.
MPA/MNM Electives  Jim Bonilla will teach a newly designed course. The course, Managerial Leadership and Cultural Competence, will fulfill elective requirements for MNM and MPA students. For more information about the course contact Jim Bonilla.
Other possible elective courses include David Schultz teaching a course on Sustainability and Jim Scheibel teaching about Civic Engagement. |

ACUI is a nonprofit educational organization that brings together college union and student activities professionals from hundreds of schools in seven countries. Student membership in the organization is free and registration for conferences and events is greatly reduced for students. The 2010 annual conference will bring together student leaders at the graduate level from all over the country to discuss student leadership, mentorship, and student organizations.
