Introducing New HSB Faculty
The School of Business is proud to welcome four new faculty members for 2009-2010. They bring with them diverse backgrounds and enthusiasm for teaching. Kudos to Jim Hagen
Professor Jim Hagen recently was notified that his case, Ben and Jerry's in Japan, was one of the top ten best selling cases in 2008-2009 from Ivey Publishing. The case, which focuses on building strategy for entering a foreign market, has been one of Ivey's best selling cases since it was published in 2000.
This summer Jim returned to Japan for more research and he will be back in Asia in October when he leads a group of MBA students on a China international experience. |
Dean Julian Schuster on Ethics
Julian Schuster was interviewed and quoted in a September 2009 featured article Minnesota Business titled "Ethics Epicenter: How Minnesota Started a Global Ethics Revolution." Dean Schuster spoke specifically to how MBA and business programs teach and discuss ethics in the classroom with future business leaders. Congratulations to Aimee Horgan
Congratulations to Aimee Horgan who successfully defended her  master's thesis on September 4. Aimee's thesis, titled "A Comparison of Men & Women on the Shared Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneurs: A Qualitative Case Study" explores the motivators, characteristics, and skills of successful small business entrepreneurs. Aimee's thesis committee is Rob Routhieaux, Mary Slack, and Maliha Husain. |
Hamline Student Group to Host Film Screening and Discussion
Two Hamline Student groups are working together to bring awareness to the genocide in Darfur. The Hamline Gradute Student Organization and Hamline Students for a World without Genocide will be showing a screening of The Devil Came on Horseback, a documentary on Darfur. A question and answer session will follow. The event is free. It is Wednesday, October 7 in GLC 100E at 7pm. Contact MBA student Mark Turbak if you have questions.

Undergraduate ADVANCE Job Seminar
Undergraduate seniors recently received instructions via e-mail on how to register for the ADVANCE job seminar that all seniors should plan to attend. These seminars are specifically tailored to undergraduate seniors. More information can be found on the seminar information handout and students should register through appointment-plus.
These seminars start the week of September 28 so please register early to receive your preferred time.

25th Annual Conference on Policy Analysis
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 University of Minnesota's Continuing Education and Conference Center Professor Kris Norman-Major Chair of the Public Administration Department, is on the planning committee. HSB Dean Julian Schuster will participate on a panel of experts discussing the economic stimulus package and its effects on Minnesota economy and government. Hamline Career Development Center 2009 Fall Recruiting Events
The Hamline Career Development Center will be hosting several recruiting events in the coming weeks. Several of the events are undergraduate focused, but graduate students are invited to the Northstar Resource Group and Government Job and Internship Fair.
