Graduate Writing Workshops
The Hamline Writing Center is your resource for advice and guidance in the pursuit of improvement in writing skills. HSB students can utilize the Hamline Writing Center for help with papers ranging from your first paper after returning to school to the Master's Thesis or Doctoral dissertation.
The center will open on September 21 and has scheduled several workshops for October that will focus specifically on the needs of graduate students. The dates, times, and topics for those workshops can be accessed here. |
Jenny Keil Speaks and Writes
The September 2009 edition of the Women's Press features an  article by Professor Jenny Keil in which she shares her thoughts on working mothers and reviews some books on the topic. Read the article on the Women's Press web site. Jenny also was selected to address the Hamline University community at the annual convocation ceremony on September 10th. Professor Keil spoke about our reaction as a community to the current recession and how Hamline is facing the challenges.

Professor Joynes Speaks on Public Service
Associate Professor Bill Joynes of the Hamline School of Business will be a guest speaker at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Division, Fall Supervisory Conference in Cloquet, MN on September 17, 2009. Professor Joynes has presented for a number of years in the DNR's various leadership programs. His presentation this session is titled "Perspectives on Public Service in Difficult Times."

Public Works Certificate Program Cohort Has Formed
The Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy (MPWA) started this week with Bill Joynes as lead instructor. The program, in its fourth year, is one of several public administration certificate programs that are available. This MPWA program has graduated nearly 60 students from its certificate program and several have continued in the Master in Public Administration program. Certificates in Corrections Administration, Economic Development, Labor Relations, and Public Safety Administration are forming now for 2009-2010. Jim Scheibel to Speak at National Association for State Community Programs Jim Scheibel will address the National Association for State Community Services Programs (NASCSP) Annual Conference on Friday, September 18 in Minneapolis. His address, partnered with Don Mathis from Community Action Partnership, is titled Rooting Out Poverty Nationwide and will focus on solutions and strategies for ensuring economic security for all Americans. Participants will receive an update on national and local efforts on eliminating the causes and consequences of poverty. For more information about the conference, visit the conference packet. |
Hamline to Host 2009 ASPA Minnesota Conference
 The Minnesota chapter of the American Society of Public Administrators (ASPA) will hold their Fall Luncheon and Workshop at Hamline's Minneapolis Center. The workshop will include remarks from Dr. Tom Walkington and is scheduled for September 16 with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. The workshop will dive into the tough topic of budgeting during fiscally challenging years. Kay Fredericks Ballroom, Klas Center HSB will host the 2009 Plan Sponsor Fiduciary Summit. The meeting will feature several distinguished guests and speakers on the topic of fiduciary liability concerns and practices. HSB Dean Julian Schuster will open the Summit, welcome guests, and speak briefly regarding the Hamline School of Business.

25th Annual Conference on Policy Analysis
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 University of Minnesota's Continuing Education and Conference Center Professor Kris Norman-Major Chair of the Public Administration Department, is on the planning committee. HSB Dean Julian Schuster will participate on a panel of experts discussing the economic stimulus package and its effects on Minnesota economy and government.
