Hamline School of Business Weekly Update
August 21, 2009
MBA Module 4 Executive Forum

MBA Module 4 students came together on Thursday, August 20 for an executive forum in Kay Fredericks Ballroom.  Executives from Buffalo Wild Wings, 3M, Target, and the Mayo Clinic sat on a panel to discuss "Strategy, Leadership, and Building World Class Firms."  vStudents had an opportunity to listen to personal stories and ask questions.  There also was time for socializing and networking.   The event will likely mark the last time many of these students will see each other as students.  Soon all will be Hamline MBA graduates.  Associate Dean Nancy Hellerud reminded them to keep in contact with Hamline School of Business.  The event was moderated by Professor Sunil Ramlall and Dean Julian Schuster welcomed students, guests, and Kathleen Benning, Tom Ries, Frank Crowson, and Tripp Welch as featured speakers.  For more photos of the event please click here
Registered for Fall?

The start of Fall term is rapidly approaching.  MBA and cohort courses will start the week of August 31 while undergraduate and traditional students get started after Labor Day.  If you are not registered yet, be sure to get to Piperline soon and register.  On-line registration will close before the class begins which makes registration and access to Blackboard more difficult.  Contact Joe Crosby if you have problems with registration.
Start Thinking Ahead to Spring and Sustainability!

In Spring 2010 the Hamline School of Business will offer a course to DPA, MPA, and MNM students focused on issues of Sustainability.  This course will explore the basic tenets of sustainability in the public and private sectors.  It will examine the perceived conflict between the prospects of sustainable environments and economic growth and question some of the underlying assumptions.  The course will employ regional, national and international examples of sustainable development, public policy and business strategies. By studying existing and proposed public policy, the private sector's reaction to the public policy and finally the resultant market solution, students will be able to discern how sustainable strategies affect the marketplace.   The course will be taught primarily as a case study course when possible.  Class discussions, writing case studies and class presentations will be a significant portion of the class grade.  Registration for this course opens on November 16, 2009.  Students should contact David Schultz if they have questions about the course.
