HSB Strengthens Ties with International Universities
HSB Dean Julian Schuster was in Cologne, Germany, recently to sign a memorandum of understanding between HSB and the Cologne Business School. This agreement is to develop academic and cultural exchanges between the two schools. The first project will be the MBA Global Risk Management International Seminar this fall. Pictured below is President Weischer, Dean Julian Schuster, Kari Richtsmeier, Assistant Director of Off Campus Program, and representatives from the Cologne Business Schoool. MBA Director Dr. Bob Kramarczuk will also soon be traveling in Scandinavia and Germany in order to meet with universities for potential future partnerships and international experiences for HSB students.

MBA Case Study Motivates Student to Secure Deal
MBA student Sarah Zaug, a member of the M7 cohort, recently  viewed a case study in Managing the Global Marketplace with Jim Hagen in Module 3. The case study was on Cirque de Solei's realtions with suppliers and customers and touched on their practice of using local and organic food sources as they tour the country. Being a faithful employee of The Wedge Natural Food Coop, Sarah placed a few calls, sent a few e-mails and was able to make contacts which led to the The Wedge, and partner Coop Partners Warehouse, securing a supply contract with Cirque De Solei while they are in the Twin Cities this summer! |
Graduate and Undergraduate Career Services
The HSB graduate student summer career services workshop series continues on July 20 with a session on Marketing and Networking. Please check the workshop schedule and 1 on 1 schedule for more information and contact Joe Crosby with questions or to RSVP. HSB undergraduate students who will be searching for internships and careers will be happy to hear that Rich Manke has joined the HSB as a Career Management Specialist. Rich will focus on career services for HSB undergraduate students, providing individual consultations and small group workshops on topics relevant to career management in a challenging job market. Public Administration Information Session
The Department of Public Administration will host a lunch hour information session at Saint Paul City Hall on July 29. This location is a great place to discuss public administration with government leaders from city and county government. More information can be found on the information session flyer. |
Jim Bonilla Presents Sabbatical Research Professor Jim Bonilla presented at the Ninth International Conference on Knowledge, Culture, and Change in Organizations at Northeastern University in Boston on Friday, June 26th. Dr. Bonilla's presentation was based on his sabbatical research and was titled "Making Green Organizations Multicultural: Debunking the Myths about People of Color and the Environment." |
Fahima Aziz Presents at the International Association for Feminist Economics, June 26-28
Professor Fahima Aziz, Hamline School of Business, presented her paper, "Do Microcredit Lending Programs Really Empower Women: A Comparative Analysis of Microcredit Programs in Bangladesh and U.S.A.," at the International Association for Feminist Economics in Boston, June 26-28, 2009. |
Professor David Schultz, Prognasticator
The Franken/Coleman senatorial race has finally reached a conclusion which means HSB Professor and election law expert David Schultz can finally take some time to rest. As the national media covered the swearing in of Al Franken, Politico did a story about Minnesota's political media experts. Schultz predicted the outcome of the race one month before its conclusion stating when and how the Minnesota Supreme Court would resolve the issue.
Schultz was also recently quoted in CNN and the New York Times on Al Franken and politics in Minnesota. |
Joynes Presents on Conflict in Public Sector Associate Professor William Joynes presented to the Minnesota State Highway Patrol on July 15th and will again on August 19th on the subject of "Responding to Conflict in the Public Sector" to the groups of civilian support personnel and Patrol Captains. This is part of the year-long leadership training program for State Patrol ranking officers. Watch the HSB web site and this space for more information soon about a certificate program offered through the School of Business specifically focused on Public Safety Administration. |
On Wednesday, July 22, from 10am - noon, Laura Nichols-Endres will be defending her Master's Thesis for the Master of Nonprofit Management degree. The thesis focuses on "Leadership Changes in Nonprofit Arts Organizations." It will be held in the Hamline Park Plaza 305 Conference Room. Students and faculty are welcome to attend.
