New Format for Weekly Update

Scheibel Will Serve as Executive in Residence 
Jim
The Hamline School of Business is honored to welcome Jim Scheibel as an Executive in Residence. A former St. Paul city council member and Mayor, as well as Clinton Administration Appointee, Jim brings his passion for public service to work in both the Public Administration and Nonprofit Management programs. Jim, who already has been teaching the Ethics course for these programs, will be increasing his teaching responsibilities as well as helping with other projects. Jim will be using his connections in the community to help us establish a Mentoring Network for our students as well as other outreach projects. We are excited to have Jim expand his role with HSB and the Public Administration and Nonprofit programs. He has an office in Suite 305 of Hamline Park Plaza and you can e-mail him at jscheibel01@hamline.edu.  Please join us in welcoming Jim in his new role with the HSB.
Kate Barr In Nonprofit Quarterly

Kate Barr, instructor in the Master of Nonprofit Management program and Executive Director of Nonprofit Assistance Fund, was recently published in the Nonprofit Quarterly.  Her article, Improviing Nonprofit Decision Making Amid Economic Crisis can be found here. 
Professor Keil Has Busy WeekJennyend
 
The sepeaking services of Professor Jenny Keil are in high demand this weekend.  On Friday, April 17th, she is speaking at the 2009 Women's Policy Forum, hosted by the Office on the Economic Status of Women for the state of Minnesota. Her panel is "The Economic Impacts of Policy for Women."

On Saturday, April 18th, she is the keynote speaker for the
Minnesota National Organization for Women's Annual State Conference. Her talk will focus on how women are impacted by the recession and the stimulus package.
Detailed Information About the China MBA Experience

The U.S. business relationship with China is very important and so it is not surprising that many students have expressed interest in the MBA International Experience to China.  More details are available about this once in a lifetime experience.  Please see the schedule complete with planned lectures.  The program flyer contains great information about the opportunity.  

 
Registration for Fall Opens on Monday, April 20 
 
With the recent string of beautiful spring weather, few of us are thinking about crisp autumn days.  However, registration opens on Monday for Fall 2009 classes.  As always, there will be several courses that will close quickly so please be sure to preview the classes offered on Piperline and register on April 20. 

DPA Alumni Update
 
Miriam Porter, one of the first graduates from the Doctorate in Public Administration program, checked in recently from Ghana.  She has been introducing urban management courses into the Planning Deptartment's curriculum at the Kwame Nkrumuh University of Science and Technology (KNUST) this past academic year. She is completing her second semester at the University and hopes to develop an urban management curriculum specificly for developing countries. The ICMA is lending assistance.  Miriam hopes to come home for a visit this summer before returning for fall courses back in Ghana.

MBA Bring a Friend Information Sessions
Do you have friends or coworkers interested in earning an MBA degree?  Do you want your coworkers or friends to know more about your MBA experience?   Do you work in downtown Minneapolis?  We have a perfect way to bring a friend to lunch and introduce them to the Hamline MBA.  On April 23, the MBA program will host a bring a friend to lunch information session at Morton's Steakhouse.  Contact Jamie Schiller or Wendy Delesha to RSVP for this event.

Hamline Student Business Group Meeting
The Hamline Student Business Group was very busy this week offering networking and advising opportunities to go along with free Chipotle burritos and $1 coffee.  On April 21 the group will elect officers for its 2009-2010 executive board.  The group will meet Tuesday, April 21 at 5:30 in Bush Library 104.  You can find more information about the organization at http://hamlinesbg.com/

Future Events
The HSB is Going to Ottawa

Students in the Masters in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, and Business Administration can travel to Ottawa this summer as part of an elective course that fulfills credits for all program.  More information about this unique opportunity to study our neighbor to the north can be found on the program flyer

The English Learning Center is looking for an urban agriculture intern to help with the formation of a new educational program involving urban agriculture.  The organization is looking for a 6 month, 10-20 hour a week unpaid intern.  Check their web site for more information
