The Extinction Event by David BlackReading, Reception, and Book Signing
Saturday, October 9, at 3:30 pm
Free and Open to the Public at the Chatham Public Library

David Black will read from his latest novel, The Extinction Event, set in Columbia County where Black lives and works.  One of the scenes in this mystery takes place during the Demolition Derby at the Columbia County Fair in Chatham.

Most of the towns in the novel have fictional names, but many of the places that are described are familiar local landmarks - especially a stately Carnegie Library that features an elegant Tiffany Window. (Hint: you will see it at the reading and if you glance above!)

In addition to five novels, Black has written four nonfiction books and more than 150 magazine articles, plus screenplays and a poetry collection.  Murder at the Met was nominated for an Edgar Allen Poe Award from the Mystery Writers of America.  The Plague Years, a book based on a series he wrote for Rolling Stone, was nominated for a Pullitzer Prize.

Black is also an award-winning TV writer whose credits include Law & Order, CSI Miami, and 100 Centre Street.  His feature film, The Confession, received the Writers Guild Award for Best Script.

Admission is free, but space is limited, so please call the library at 392-3666 to reserve.  The library is fully handicapped accessible.
