Tea Party

All non-profits need money these days
And most try to raise it in costly ways.
New budgets cut the Chatham Library's cash
But the Friends aren't having a fundraising bash.
We're inviting you, instead, to a virtual tea
For which the admission is totally free.

Transportation won't cost you a single dime
and you won't waste a minute of precious time.
You need not worry about what to wear
You don't even have to comb your hair.

So please take time for a relaxed cup of tea
And take that moment to consider this plea:
We'd like to replenish the Library's coffers
So it can continue with all that it offers--
Kid's Programs, videos and DVDs galore,
Plus magazines, books and so much more.

If you personal budget is not a complete wreck,
Please help by sending the Friends group a check.
We'll be gratefull for any amounct you can spare,
And it's all tax-deductible, which only seems fair.

The Friends of the Chatham Public library would like to thank
Chatham Printing for the hard work and support they have provided for this fundraising effort.

Vampire Rising

by Francesca Lia Block

SUMMER BOOK GROUP SELECTIONS

Original Bliss
July's selection is "Original Bliss"
 by A. L. Kennedy.

Only a writer of rare talent could take an abused housewife and an addict and weave around them a terrifically tender love story.
A.L. Kennedy starts her extraordinary novel in Glasgow, Scotland, where Helen Brindle leads a life of quiet despair.
Discussion will take place on Wednesday, July 28 at 6:15pm in the Library's downstairs teen room.

The Help
August's selection is "The Help"
by Kathyrn Stockett.

Southern whites' guilt for not expressing gratitude to the black maids who raised them threatens to become a familiar refrain. "The Help"  is a nuanced variation on that theme.  In a page-turner that brings new resonance to the moral issues involved, Stockett spins a story of social awakening as seen from both sides of the American racial divide.
Discussion will take place on Wednesday, August 25 at 6:15pm in the Library's downstairs teen room.

Please feel free to contact the Friend's Book Group organizer, Teresa Barensfeld at: tbarensfeld@gmail.com about the discussions or any related topic.
We look forward to seeing you at the discussions!
