POETRY SLAM: Wednesday April 7 at 6pm (Open to All)
The Chatham Public Library is happy to announce a two-part poetry workshop lead by Poet/Performance Artist Kathe Izzo The program is for teens aged 12 and up, and will be held at the library.
Teen participants will get first hand experience in what it feels like to be part of a community of poets, writing, sharing their poetry, and supporting each other's work.
The workshop will culminate in a Poetry SLAM. The SLAM provides the participants with an opportunity to perform their work in front of an audience of friends and family, and will be hosted by an enthusiastic emcee. SLAM poets need not be workshop participants.
Kathe Izzo teaches creative writing to young people of all ages, stressing writing as a therapeutic tool. Most recently she taught a writing workshop for teens at the Hudson Opera House. She is the author of several books of poetry and a contributor to numerous anthologies, including the Outlaw Bible of American Poetry, published by Thunderstone Press. Her many themes, explored in both her poetry and performance work, include the healing power of unconditional love.
