Coffee News

Hey java drinkers, that coffee buzz you love so much may also help prevent heart failure, according to a new study published in the American Heart Association's journal Circulation Heart Failure. While many believe coffee drinking may be dangerous to the heart, researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston said moderate consumption of your daily joe could be beneficial.

You know there are times when the young lead the old into a way of life that is truly enriching and more than enjoyable...that is what a young man did for the old The Alpaca Bean Coffee Co owners. Yep, the same dude that I have mentioned before...Charles (Charlie) Mustard. It is good when you see someone that should be singled out...get singled out for excellence.
If you are ever in Athens, Georgia try your best to get on down East Broad Street to the roasting capitol of all great coffee blends...meet Charlie and be enriched for the experience. Why am I talking like this? Well saw this on the internet and it just kicked the gear of my ol' brain and the words flowed out...that is all...
Rising Star Charlie Mustard of Jittery Joe's Coffee Roasting Co.
Biography
Atlanta, GA
May 2012
While writing his masters thesis at University of Georgia, Mustard frequented a Jittery Joe's café in Athens and found that he did his most productive work while sipping a caffeinated brew. Around this time, the owners bought a Diedrich IR-12 commercial coffee roaster and needed someone to work the machine. Mustard went to the university's science library, looked up the mechanics, and decided he'd be interested in the job. And from there, Mustard never looked back. He puts tremendous heart into his product, from working intimately with coffee farmers to overseeing each batch of roasting. Despite a national distribution, the operation still manages canning needs by hand. In addition, Mustard works with many local restaurants, coffee establishments, and hotels to create unique blends and roasts that satisfies the specific needs of the customers.

Why, you say, am I promoting another roasting company? Well, Charles (as we know him) is a fantastic person as well as a fantastic roast master. He can roast any and all of the coffees of our world and roast them well beyond good...but he just may become more famous for his efforts to improve the lives of folks around him than his efforts in the world of coffee...you see, Charles grabs hold of all of life's experiences with passion. That is why he is great at what he does...if he had decided to he would have been a great micro-biologist, or veterinarian, or school teacher...but, lucky for us he decided to be a great humanitarian that just happens to be a fantastic roast master! Ain't life grand!?!

Your Brain on Coffee
Coffee may be good for the brain, too. A study earlier this year by neuroscientists at the University of Lisbon showed that drinking coffee can help to prevent the neural degeneration associated with brain disorders and aging. The scientists found that drinking up to four cups of coffee a day over a long period of time actually prevented the deterioration of memory.

On A Personal Note:
The Greatest Generation
Well now I just finished reading a very good book by Tom Brokaw called, The Greatest Generation. He makes a very good case for the folks that were in my parents' generation...the folks that came through the Great Depression and World War !!. Cannot argue with most of his logic, nor can I ignore the history lessons that he presents at the beginning of his book. With that all said, I have to admit that other generations were, or for that matter are, not too shabby either.
First, the men and women that led an enfant nation in its great struggle for freedom and independence should not and must not be ignored. Without the gallent efforts they made, we would not have our beautiful stars and bars flying over this country today. (And as a recent newsletter pointed out the great tea party in Boston was probably, at least to some degree, planned in an early coffee house!) Then what about folks that endured all manner of disasters and bounced back to make life, if not better, a heck of a lot more liveable!
But let's not limit ourselves to one war, one disaster, or one noteable event...let's look at the ones that have historically been called upon to give, and to sacrifice for the common good. When we look in that direction we see the faces of the very young, the talented, the ambitious, the prime base for a better future for our country, for everyone that lives here. You see, no matter how just, or unjust for that matter, a conflict is...well it seems it is always the elder generations that tend to send the young ones off to do the deed. In the process, you never know whose would be parent is taken out of the picture, you (nor I) will ever know if a future leader of our world was done in even before he or she could be done...so to speak.
I am ramblin' because The Greatest Generation made me think of the thousands and 100s of thousands of young folks today that can make our wonderful country even better, stronger, more compassionate, ready to take on the world on our terms...or as least on the terms of a power much higher than we can imagine. They can, in reality, become the next "greatest generation" simply by doing, by serving, by innovation, and by sheer guts and will to succeed. We need these guys and girls to step forward...to build our country's manufacturing back to where it can be looked to as a leader in all aspects of goods, we need them to not listen to the negative talk jocks from any political front, but most of all we need them to understand that no one, no where, gets something for nothing...but no one is limited to what others think...or do...or complain about...rather only what they as individuals and as a community can accomplish no matter the odds.
Can you hear it comin', the soft tones of,The Theme from Rocky...growin' and building into a heart thumpin' melody! :o) No really, I can hear it standing on the soap box here! Thank you Tom Brokaw, for your insight, and for hopefully awakening those of us that were slumbering...marking time til the next morning...of course that is not too bad if you have a good mug of The Alpaca Bean Coffee to kick start your day...maybe it will be the kick start you and I need to simply enjoy life and to help someone else enjoy it as well.
Peace,
The Coffeeman
