Why Coffee?????
Did you ever wonder how human beings ever decided to drink coffee? Can you remember when you first tasted this great beverage? Bet you saw your Mom or Dad sipping a cup and decided right then and there that you wanted to be like your favorite people and try some too...soooo, Mom made you a cup of "coffee". Bet it had 70% milk and 5% sugar and 25% coffee...and you loved it! The only thing, Mom would only let you have it on rare occasions cause she did not want to stunt your growth! :o) It became the forbidden fruit of your younger years...but then one day you snuck into the kitchen and found the coffee pot still had a bit of coffee left over from breakfast...you decided to drink it just like Dad! You poured a bit into a cup...so it was a little cold, no matter...and who needs milk and sugar...Dad didn't. Looking both directions from the room you tilted the cup up and took a big ol' drink ...boy did you let it fly! BAD - BAD - BAD Yep, you learned from that experience...never, but never drink coffee again!
However, as the years went by, you learned that there was good coffee and there was bad coffee. Some could be drunk without sugar and milk and others had to have something just to get them down. It wouldn't make sense to drink the bad kind...that is unless you were studying for an important final in college and the only coffee served at the nearby "greasy spoon" was the bad kind! Boy what we do to get by, huh? :o)
We age...yep, sorry to say it is so...and we get involved in life, jobs, and hobbies. We age some more...yep that's also true... and we begin to look for ways to fulfill our lives...a new challenge, retirement, and ALPACAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We make friends and begin to attend events surrounding this great animal...then, thank heaven...we (speaking figuratively here) decide to take a chance on this strange "new" coffee at one of the shows.
Whoever heard of coffee called The Alpaca Bean...more to the point, who would drink coffee possibly made from alpaca beans!?! Well, being the fool hardy person, we (here we go speaking figuratively again) get a cup of this stuff...and find that not only do you not have to put milk and sugar in it, we PREFER it without milk and sugar because it TASTES GREAT by itself! AND it really is not made from alpaca beans, but is instead made from green coffee beans imported from Bolivia and Peru and roasted right on an alpaca farm...THAT is how it got its name, The Alpaca Bean Coffee!
Well, I could go on and on...but have decided to spare you the pain! Alas, we cannot serve coffee to the general population at shows any longer (concession folks have grown to realize that their sales tend to bottom out on coffee when we are there), but we can bring our coffee booth to select shows and offer this great coffee to you. You will have to brew your own but you will be glad you did once you tilt a mug (which you can also purchase at our booth) full to your lips for a sip. Life is good...and the coffee is even better than that first cup Mom made you back "in the day" of your youth.
See you this month in Carolina! Bring your alpacas, get them settled down...then drop by The Alpaca Bean Coffee Booth for a while and lets catch up on each other! Until then...y'all take care now!

On a Personal Note......
Forty-five years...you know that is a long time no matter whose calendar you look at, don't ya think? Well, it is unless you have spent it with one of the most unique individuals the Lord placed on this earth of ours. Unique in that she is both strong of spirit, and body, and mind...yet, gentle of spirit with a heart that overtakes her strong body and mind at a moment's notice. She never could, or will, pass up a critter that needs a good home...she is always reaching out a helping hand to those in need...and she is love...she learned that in part from her Mom, I am sure.
SHE is my wonderful wife of 45 years...my Jude...my love...my partner in life and in alpacas and in coffee roastin'! She was crippled during an accident while putting a new roof on a needy family's home so that they could stay dry and continue to have a place to live off the streets. She researched a way to leave that crippled state and found it...had the courage to go on a somewhat untested route...and now is able to walk the alpaca paddocks without a limp because of this.
This wife of mine has always sought ways to help folks in need reach their absolute greatest potential. She has always deflected attention from herself...she makes light of the fact that she was often chosen to provide communication for the deaf during events like, two of South Carolina's governors as they were sworn into office, numerous state house Christmas celebrations, and a Billy Graham Crusade event in Columbia, SC...oh yes, in being named Teacher of the Year for her efforts in teaching hearing impaired in South Carolina and then nominated for the same honor when she returned home to Georgia.
Now Jude spends her days here on the farm with me...her time taking care of her loving parents now past...in a home that she fills with love for me, her beloved Golden and Golden/Husky, her two barn cats, and her many alpacas. I trust that she does not long for the times and challenges of her career of helping, because she now faces a more difficult challenge...putting up with a husband that, I am sure, at times takes much more effort than all her other challenges.
On February 19th, say a prayer for her because at that time she begins the first day of the next 45 years...or so I wish! :o) We will begin the day sharing one of the fruits of our labors, a mug of our The Alpaca Bean Coffee. We will probably then wrap an alpaca scarf around our necks (made from two of our favorite alpacas' fiber), and venture out to feed our "girls and boys"...we will talk to them as if they understand, and then we will sit back and dream of our coming years together...Thank you, Jude...thank you for being my partner in this life of ours.
My hope and prayer is that each of you will find that special someone to share your life with,or find ways to enrich the life with that special someone you already have found.
Peace,
The Coffeeman
