 Questions...and Answers
"Hey Coffeeman, how do you keep your coffee sooooo good???
Answer: Now I like that question, and hopefully you will like this answer...you see Judy and I are not master roasters in the sense that we can or would roast any and all coffees from around the world. We are "love" roasters in that we only roast, at most, three or four different coffees we love from differing coffee growing countries. We import only coffees from Peru and Bolivia and occasionally from Colombia (to add to our holiday blend). That is it...we do not import from any other countries, because Peru and Bolivia are the homelands of the alpaca. We would import from Chili as well, however, Chili does not grow coffee. I understand they produce fine wines...but that is another newsletter! :o)
You may know that each coffee bean produces its own unique taste...it has unique moisture content, and taste characteristics. Judy and I learned from an individual that is a Master Roaster and he also guided us in our search for the perfect roaster for our operation. One of the first things he said to us when we were discussing the purchase was, "If you buy a roaster with an automatic, computerized system, then I do not want to work with you...you need to learn how to truly roast coffee through smell/aroma, sight, and experiences." We took that advice to heart and set out to discover the art of roasting...from your question, it appears we may be on the right track.
Hope that answers your question, and thanks for asking. We will try to answer all questions that come in, no matter what! So, ask away! We will limit this to one per issue to avoid overkill! :o)

On A Personal Note...
Good Coffee is a Pleasure...Good Friends are a Treasure!
This is a saying that I first saw on the wall of a neat little restuarant in the City of Lavonia, GA. It stuck with me and I really cannot erase it from my mind bank...nor do I wish to. You see I have come to realize that there is no "thing" that really means "anything." Of course a momentary delight is always a pleasure to cherish, because there are too few of them now days...a good mug of The Alpaca Bean Coffee is just one such pleasure...but not even that can compare to having a best friend show up for even a short visit, give you a warm smile and a good ol' bear hug...nope cannot beat that! Now being able to sit down and enjoy a good mug with good conversation...that combination is beyond good, 'cause you got your pleasure being shared with a treasured friend.
Jude and I look forward to the few shows we will be attending this year because they give us opportunities to revisit friendships, and build new ones. We usually take these for granted until we are jolted by the loss of a part of our lives...part of the alpaca owner community. None of us want good things to change, for health to go down,or to have financial troubles end the dreams of a lifetime. But you know we do have to deal with change way too often and in ways far too real. This time last year, I had written the November '09 newsletter and had added my account of the experiences we had in Virginia and a great ER. At that time we had to look at the possibility that we would have to change our dreams, our plans, and our way of life. As it turns out, that ER visit was only the first visit...that has been followed by two other visits and a hospital stay right before and during the first day of the Georgia Show last year. This past summer was terribly hot and long...our herd of wonderful alpacas suffered through with our help, and the help of those wonderful folks that provided support for us and the farm. As you have read here in previous newsletters, we lost Judy's Mom, and have had to deal with everything surrounding that event...yes, change is really the only definite in our lives.
That is behind us now, and we look forward to building on our good fortune and our foundation of friends and family. First, we are having an intimate alpaca training session here on the farm during the November 20th weekend (intimate in that we are restricting the training to a small number), we are looking to expand our coffee company's reach, and we are looking forward to helping others develop treasures of their own! We know we have a limited time here, as we all do, and we want to make sure we, and you, do not miss any opportunity to tap mugs filled with The Alpaca Bean Coffee as we, and you, celebrate and toast the friendships we all have made...the treasures of the heart that we all have stored...and the dreams we all have of happy, healthy, and prosperous times.
Our Thanksgiving 2010 is based on our belief that this will be a fantastic year, filled with surprises and challenges...fun stuff! :o) All the while, we are thankful we have been given precious time with loved ones, both family and friends over the years. We now look forward to having a ton more treasured moments with friends and family whenever and wherever possible.
Until that possibility comes about, you take care and fall in love each day...smile at your alpacas or come on over and smile at ours...sip a mug of good coffee, smell the aroma and let your dreams grow...
