Dear Friends and Family, I write this note knowing that a dear, dear spirit has now earned her angel's wings. Judy's Mom, actually everyone's Mom, passed from this earthly place last evening. Just short of 96 years, a woman of great strength and with an ability to share her love that will only be duplicated by her three daughters...this I know. As I sit here writing, I feel a very deep sense of loss...and yet I feel joy for Mom as she is now able to again see perfectly, move without pain, and hear the beautiful sounds that surely surround her. My loss, to some degree, can be sensed by anyone that has come in contact with Ms. Pinkie. Her unconditional love had no boundaries, and was shared with anyone that crossed her path. Now, I am not saying this "Steel Magnolia" was all "mushy and gushy", not hardly...she could spot a phony a mile away...but she chose to find beauty not fault in most that entered her world. The only individuals that were not offered this total love were those that chose to demonstrate hate toward her family, her church family community or her beloved country...and those few received her prayers for tolerance. Lucille Webb Speth, born in the Panama Canal Zone, raised through her childhood in Anderson, South Carolina, and married to Louis Speth, was mom to four daughters: Lucy, Tina, Mary, and Judy. Lucy, Mary and Judy are still carrying on their Mom's legacy of love. Please join them, and all of us, in celebrating Ms. Pinkie's wonderful life...and her ability to love.
I feel deeply, deeply honored to have been called "Son" by this beautiful soul, and know that someday I will be able to say, "Mom, you know your grandfather was right...You Never Know What A Day Will Bring Forth...but at the end of that day, it was you that taught us all how to love!"
I usually end by signing off as "The Coffeeman", but not today.
George
PS: For those of you that did not have the fortune of knowing Mom, please forgive the use of this email service to get this out to those that do... |
