Blues and Jazz Books
Chicago played a fundamental role in the development of jazz and blues, both in terms of stylistic evolution and in the history of recording. Musicians from the South frequently migrated to Chicago, sometimes on passenger trains (riding the cushions) and sometimes hoboing on freights (riding the rods). Many of the early record labels had studios here, too. Luckily for us, all this history has been taken down in print, and books on both blues and jazz are a popular genre throughout the world. Chicago Rare Book Center has one of the largest stocks of rare and out of print books on blues and jazz, and we invite you to drop in and browse.King Joe Oliver by Walter C. Allen and Brian Rust. London, published by Sidgwick and Jackson. $85

Judy Bolton and Series Books
The Judy Bolton mystery series featured auburn-haired detective Judy Bolton and her newspaper reporter brother, Horace Bolton. The first book in the series was published in 1932 and the last in 1967.
Author Margaret Sutton based each book on a true-life incident. And unlike most series book characters, Judy ages as the series progresses and even gets married. We currently have available a nice collection of Judy Boltons in dust jacket.
We also carry other juvenile series books, including Walter Farley's Black Stallion series, the Twin series by Lucy Fitch Perkins, the Cherry Ames nurse series, Nancy Drew mysteries, and Tom Swift, as well as many others. The Warning on the Window. A Judy Bolton Mystery by Margaret Sutton. $20
