Author George Daughan To Speak About 1812: The Navy's War
Friday, October 12, 2012
Perhaps no war in American history is as overlooked as the War of 1812. Yet with its 200th anniversary, historian and award-winning author George C. Daughan argues that this war changed the shape of the world. In "1812: The Navy's War", Daughan offers a comprehensive history of what has been called our Second War of Independence. Encompassing political, diplomatic, economic, as well as military history, he brings the battles to life, putting them in context with the larger war, and showing how the war couldn't have been won without America's foundling Navy. George Daughan plans to speak at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library's October 12 Literary Luncheon. The cost for lunch, provided by Red Cup, is $10. Registrations can be made at the library up until Thursday, October 11. For more information, call the library at 633-3112.
October Artist of the Month
Jennifer Litchfield
Jen Litchfield has been living and painting in Maine for the past 16 years. Originally from Australia, where she pursued a medical career as a general practitioner in Sydney for 20 years, she moved to the United States in 1994 after meeting and marrying her American husband, Peter Felsenthal, with whom she lives on Barters Island. Jen will say that art has always been one of her great loves. Her subject matter includes the landscape of New England and Europe, still life, and portraits. Smaller landscapes are painted en plein air and the larger works are painted in the studio using sketches and her own digital photographic references. She would describe her style as bold and colorful - a mix of realism and impressionism. Jen Litchfield's art is represented by the Hunter Gallery of Fine Art in Grafton, Vermont, and this month by Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. If you would like to see her display, then go to the library any time during their business hours of 10:00 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, excepting Wednesday when they close at 7:00 p.m.
