Visitor E-news September 2012, Vol. 2

Greetings,

There is a hint of fall crispness in the air. The brilliant sunshine combined with pleasant temperatures make this an ideal time to visit the Boothbay Harbor region.

September is a month filled with exciting events. The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce is excited to present the First Annual Claw Down, a competition for local chefs to present their best lobster bite to be judged by a panel of industry-leading experts and for a chance to win the coveted People's Choice Award. The Claw Down is followed by Restaurant Week, where a dozen local eateries will offer a special three-course menu for $24.95.  The fun food festivities will conclude with the first annual Harbor Fest, a fun family event being put on by Marketing Cents 4U.

Are you looking to see some of our gorgeous fall foliage during your visit? Click here to see the foliage map put out by Yankee Magazine. It should be able to help you plan your visit to take advantage of peak foliage season.

Warm wishes,

Glen Phillips and Grant Lee Phillips

Saturday, September 29, 2012 8:00 p.m.

Singer-songwriter-guitarists Glen Phillips and Grant-Lee Phillips share more than a common surname. Both artists cut their teeth fronting popular groups in the 1990's before launching successful solo careers. Glen Phillips led Toad the Wet Sprocket, whose hits "All I want" and "Something's Always Wrong" were staples of the era. Grant-Lee Phillips fronted the group Grant Lee Buffalo, best known for the songs "Mockingbirds" and "Truly, Truly." The two have long maintained a highly regarded presence and a loyal following. This acoustic co-headliner tour will feature the two performing together, trading tales and songs from their collective repertoires. The tour coincides with the release of Grant-Lee Phillips' album Walking in the Green Corn, which is a Pledge Music supported project. Glen Phillips recently released what he refers to as his 2003 "lost record" Tornillo, a collection of rare gems. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show.

At the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library:

September Artist of the Month: Suzanne Marinell

SuSuzanne Marinell, At the Edgezanne Marinell is a summer resident of Maine.  She is also the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library's September Artist of the Month. Her paintings are often inspired by places that she has explored here. The changeable beauty, sometimes dramatic, sometimes mysteriously misty, never ceases to awe her. In Pennsylvania, her residence the rest of the year, she enjoys the beauty of the Wissahickon, Fort Washington State Park, the Morris Arboretum, the Schuylkill River, and the flowers in her own back yard. They have all urged her to get out the paint brush so as to try to capture and interpret their magic. Suzanne also likes to explore different ways of creating art. She has worked longest with watercolors, but experimenting with melted crayons has helped her to concentrate on color and abstraction. She occasionally turns to acrylics and oils. Combining writing and painting is exciting to her and she has illustrated several of her own stories.
