The event was attended by over 100 Chamber members and friends.  The evening was about having fun and recognizing the contributions of members of our community.  Ralph Smith and his staff at The World is Mine Oyster treated guests to tasty appetizers and a delicious meal, and Hannaford saw to it that we had a beautiful 50th Anniversary cake and gold balloons to compliment the colorful flowers that the Boothbay Region Greenhouses so generously donated to transform the tables into spring gardens. Sweet treats were provided by And Candy Too and surprise 50th Windjammer Days t-shirts designed for the occasion were given as gifts which was made possible by O'Donnell, Lee, McCowan & Phillips. The evening was mostly about saying "thank you!"

50th Cake

Every year, the Chamber places importance on acknowledging members of the community that have made a significant contribution. Thank you to the Boothbay Region Community Resource Group and The Reverend Sarah Foulger for accepting the Community Service award.   Others receiving honors were:

International Workers Welcome Open House

Each year, our community is enriched by the addition of foreign workers that come to work and live among us for the summer months.  The workers bring their traditions, food, culture and music and teach us so much about places we may have only seen on a map. They become our friends, co-workers, and sometimes, we forge lifelong connections with many who return to visit again and again.

Please join us for the 2012 International Workers Open House on TUESDAY, June 19th from 2:00-4:00 p,m. in the Fellowship Hall at the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church.  At this remarkable event, we will share food, music, dance and friendship with the newly arrived workers. The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club will once again be presenting bicycles to the workers, which provides much needed transportation to them over the summer.  If you have any additional questions, or would like to volunteer to help with the event, please call the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor at 633-4757. All are welcome to attend.  Click here for a poster.

Mobilize Midcoast Maine

Catherine Wygant was asked by the Midcoast Economic Development District  and the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission to sign onto a new initiative that will start in the fall called Mobilize Midcoast Maine.  It is the regional component of a statewide economic development initiative. The seven federally designated Economic Development Districts (EDD's) are implementing an exciting new approach to charting Maine's economic development initiatives and priorities. Mobilize Maine is:

·          Private sector-driven and public sector-facilitated, a dramatic departure from traditional economic development planning efforts.

·          From the ground up - not top down, as traditionally conceived.

·          Developed regionally, but then assimilated and orchestrated statewide, to leverage the advantages of both perspectives.

·          Asset-based rather than needs-based, again a dramatic departure from traditional efforts that will build upon and leverage existing attributes rather identify "inputs" that are necessary to accumulate to achieve goals.

·          Measurable and benchmarked to focus efforts consistently upon attainment of identified goals.

·          Has already resulted in significant economic benefit and investment in Maine where the process has already been applied.
