TopNew Look, Schedule for Chamber Newsletter

Beginning this month, the Chamber newsletter formats are evolving a bit!  The last several years, we have been sending out a weekly E-News on Wednesdays as well as a monthly version that included inserts and sponsored pages.  We know your time is valuable, so we're making some changes to make the Chamber communications more user-friendly, informative, and a leap forward in the style department!

Instead of monthly and weekly mailings, the newsletters are switching to a bi-weekly format, and will arrive in your mailbox every two weeks.  You will be able to more easily locate articles and inserts, without having to scroll endlessly, and Board of Director and Staff listings will have direct links to email addresses.

The "new" newsletter will be a work in progress, and will continue to be refined and tweaked.  Let us know what you think - what you like, what you don't like, and what you would like to see in the newsletter. One of the pressing issues?  What to call it!  If you have any suggestions for a name for the newsletter, ideas for content, or any other comments regarding the newsletter, please email them to Jaimie Logan!

Commercial Street Water Replacement Project Update

We thank Boothbay Region Water District Manager Jon Ziegra for the following update on the Commercial Street Water Main Replacement Project.

On 23 February 2011 the district met with Nitram Excavation, Dirigo Engineering and the town of Boothbay Harbor to plan the completion third and final phase of the Commercial Street project (Boothbay House Hill to the intersection of Commercial Street and Townsend Ave).  The contractor has the authority to begin the construction of the final phase starting tomorrow.  This will be a weather dependent operation; hopefully we will start to warm-up soon.

The first evolution your membership can expect to see is grinding the pavement in the construction zone.  This is done with heavy equipment and can get a little loud, but is of very short duration (one day or less).

Next, the contractor will begin the process of installing temporary water which will take up to a week, requiring limited excavation with small  (relatively speaking) equipment where each existing service, in use at this time, in the construction area, will be changed over to temporary water.  Your membership may experience a very short duration water outage during the changeover.  District personnel will be in contact to make sure people are aware before water service is interrupted.

It is the intention of the district to not disturb the existing sidewalks during this phase of construction.

During this next phase of construction, because of the tight working space,  traffic will become an issue.  The contractor, in cooperation with the town of Boothbay Harbor, will have traffic control personnel on-site and will brief patrons on how to access area business.

I have been in contact with the new tenant for the Village Market.  The district will do everything it can to accommodate their transition into the new space.  They have already been provided the district's contact information with the district more than willing to accommodate this business start-up.

The substantial completion is still targeted for 22 April 2011.  "Substantial completion" is not final completion but the major construction will be completed at that time.  Again, this is a target date, so far so good.  Final completion, the date your membership will see us no-more, with the roads looking like Disneyland, is still on track for 20 May 2011.

Again, if anyone needs to contact me, please do not hesitate.

Thanks,

Jon

Stoneboat Architectural Design, Newcastle

Stoneboat is a Maine corporation specializing in custom home designs. Principal and owner Max Arnold began doing construction and small design projects in the mid-seventies Max Arnoldat the very beginning of the 'green' movement. Relocating to Midcoast Maine in 1984, Max continued to work for contractors doing both construction and design. In 1990, Max put down his hammer and began designing full time. His strong construction background allows his designs to be very builder-friendly and on budget. Max Arnold's long record of satisfied and often repeat clients speaks for itself. Home design shouldn't be agonizing and confrontational but fun, efficient and productive.  In 2010 one of Max's designs was featured in an extensive article in Maine Home + Design Magazine and chosen as the lead house for the 2010 Connections guide. The article may be seen at www.stoneboatdesign.com.

Also in 2010, Jaclyn Vassallo was hired as an associate designer at Stoneboat. A recent graduate of the Architectural program at the University of Maine at Augusta, Jaclyn has strong design skills and has won several juried awards. She is well rounded in both CAD and traditional hand drawing techniques. She was past president of the American Institute of Architecture Students and is a committee member for the Portland Society of Architects.

Stoneboat Design appreciates and is well versed in the traditional cottage and shingle style homes seen throughout coastal New England. However, we welcome the opportunities to work with clients who desire a truly unique and custom home design.

Watching the Green and Sustainable building methods evolve from 'do-it-yourself", government surplus, home spun technology to today's high-tech and well researched methodologies has been fascinating, if not confusing.  Not everyone is interested in a 'Green' design but everyone is interested in saving money.  Stoneboat utilizes these burgeoning materials and building methods for its efficient cost effectiveness and lower impact on people and their environment. By analyzing the living space, location and lifestyle an efficient home of minimal wasted space can be designed. The goal is also to respect the homeowner's budget and their desires for a well crafted home. Max Arnold is a member of AIBD and an allied member of AIA.  You can reach Max at 207-380-1808, by email at Stoneboat@midcoast.com and make sure the look at their website www.stoneboatdesign.com.
