3. Mike's Must Have Perennial Pick for this week is the Joe Pye Weed (Eupatorium).

Joe Pye is a "Mike Pick" because I like the height of the tall edition of Joe Pye. This plant makes an excellent backdrop with its dark green foliage and reddish gray, long lasting and large flowers. Although the plant can be found in many places it is always makes a distinctive presence in your garden.
The above photo was taken at early dusk--so the light is not real bright here. In front of the Joe Pye plant is tall hardy phlox and in front of the phlox is a peony plant. This is a good staging of color.. The Joe Pye plant pictured here is about 6 feet tall.
