We are more than a week into February now and the days are noticeably longer. The sun is also noticeably stronger during the day.

Come in to see us soon! Our greenhouses are chock full of tropical and flowering plants. We have some wonderful home grown plants like tulips and daffodils as well as some tropical orchids and jasmine to name just a few. You NEED to see the orchids-they are incredible!

It is literally Spring here at Skillin's!

Do NOT forgetValentine's Day! Yes, it is true we have been voted Maine's FavoriteFlorist for many years! Let us show you why! Call or come in to place that special order. We are open all weekend long! And we have some great Valentine's options at http://www.skillins.com/flowers.html !

Love is in Bloom!

If you are the recipient of long stemmed roses or another type of cut flower, there are a couple of things that you can do to extend the enjoyment of this romantic gift.

The flower preservative packets supplied by Skillin's Greenhouse should be added to the water to keep your flowers looking their best.

Before you slip the flowers into the water, re cut the stems under water at a slight angle; this is particularly helpful for roses. Also strip away any leaves that fall below the water line.

Follow these steps for any flowers you may receive as Valentine's gifts as well as those you prepare to give as presents.  And remember to keep the flowers out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat.

With these techniques you can expect your cut flowers to last extra days & days!

Lastly, we restart our more than exciting class schedule on Saturday, Feb 20 with "Windowsill Gardening". Check out http://www.skillins.com/information.html for the entire schedule of classes! Contact us for reservations!
