For many people Valentine's Day is a time of romantic dinners, soft candlelight and red roses. But those without a life partner may feel sad, lonely or distressed especially at this time of year. Even with a life partner, despair and hopelessness may arise from a relationship that has lost its intimacy and passion.

PUPPY LOVE
A friend of mine was driving down a country road on a hot summer day when her toddler started fussing from her car seat. "Whaaa," cried the child, and the cries became increasingly louder as they drove on. When the mother gently turned her head to see what was bothering her normally silent daughter, she felt an inner urge to glance toward the side of the road. Everything looked normal - trees, bushes, wildflowers - except for one thing. A corrugated box was lying on the side of the road, and it seemed to be moving. "What is that?" she wondered. With her curiosity peaked and an inner tugging, my friend parked the car and approached the box. Swatting away a thick, gray cloud of swarming insects, the mother jimmied the lid open and peered inside. There were six malnourished black Labrador puppies inside covered in filth and dehydrated from the blazing summer heat. It was no coincidence that the puppies were now in the care of an animal lover who fosters cats and volunteers at animal refuge organizations. Immediately this compassionate lady brought the pups to a veterinarian, and nurtured them over the next few weeks. The pups quickly regained their health, and they were placed with loving families.
Most of the people who hear this story react with, "What kind of monster did this?'" Who could do such a thing to cute little puppies?" "How could someone be so mean?" But joyous are those who see the Divine Intervention and the grace in this rescue. You see, my animal-lover friend, just like all of us in our own lives, was divinely guided to delivering healing love exactly where it was needed.
When we see the hand of a Divine Power of Love that magnificently orchestrates heroic deeds like this, we can trust that the events in our own lives are also subject to such guidance. Upon contemplating the gift in this situation, who could deny the existence of a love greater than we can imagine? To focus on the negative or potential tragedy would be missing the blessing. To let go of judgment and to see the One Love, from which all love stems, is to get the miracle and rejoice in the good that lies beneath the surface of all appearances. If we stay focused on the grace of love, we don't give outer discord the power to overtake our thoughts or our feelings with negativity, anger and criticism.
A Closer Look
If we look deeper into the symbolism of the puppies' tale, we could see that the box symbolizes facets of our own lives that we keep under cover. Have you kept a lid on your feelings and refused to let love in - or out for that matter? Have you denied yourself love for fear of being rejected, hurt or abandoned? Have you forgotten to nourish yourself spiritually, emotionally or physically because you feel unworthy or unlovable -- or because you are too busy doing things on the Earthly plane?
During this month of love, I invite you to remember that you are always connected to the One Source of all Love. You are enfolded in more love than you know. See and feel the love in every situation and release any judgment or criticism about what people do or don't do and about world events. Allow yourself to accept the gift of love which is being given to you at every moment.
Say with conviction:
I am connected to an indwelling Presence that is all Love.
I accept the Love and Light that flows in and through me.
I give and receive Love freely and joyfully.
Certainly, you are made of Divine Love and the One Heart is present at all times. We are never alone. There is a Power and Presence of Love that is right where you are all the time. Spirit did not abandon the puppies and will not abandon you. Spirit cannot abandon you. It's not possible. It is us who turn our backs on the angels, the ascended masters and the presence of God due to lack of faith, lack of understanding or being caught on the treadmill of life.
This Valentine's Day, enter into your heart space, and lift the lid on feelings you've boxed in. Let the love flow in and through you. Enter into your full glory as a conduit of God's Light, and spread your light to the world. Remember the Puppy Love story and give thanks for the many love stories in your own life. After all, expressing love is why we are here in the first place. Accept this gift from the spiritual realm and pass it on to all of life.
