Paintings by Charles Caldemeyer
The shapes of the Structures series, with their multiple levels and labyrinthine characteristics, were developed to describe the mental constructions that form the inner rooms of our existence. Conceived in combination, developed separately, and finished assembled, they are like ethnic neighborhoods within a city, retaining their individuality while also belonging to a larger whole.
These places are inhabited by symbols from both culture and psyche, and all depiction strategies, color combinations, surface decisions, and architecture or landscape choices are dictated by the nature and position of each panel as it relates to the subject of the piece.
