"Contemplations on State of Being," is a series by artist Sarah Wiseman that investigates the relationship between place and thought. The surface of her mixed media work on paper is worked like the act of mulling over an event or feeling. Each layer is continually marked out, painted over, and sanded through in a search to reveal and conceal this dialogue. Searching to make her contemplative spaces tangible is the impetus for the thread line and how the two-dimensional plane becomes an object. Leading towards the creation of archetypal images, Wiseman is continually searching for the quiet, contemplative, and peaceful states of being.
Sarah Wiseman received her BFA from Central Michigan University and her MFA from the University of Alabama. Recently, she was an artist in residence at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts where she was an active artist, teacher, and community member. Wiseman has exhibited her work nationally at galleries and museums such as; the Finer Things Gallery, Nashville, TN; City Art Gallery, Columbia, SC; Sabatini Gallery, Topeka, KS; and at Ann Arbor Art Center, Ann Arbor, MI. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.
