The Dead Engineer:
a collection of works by Deanna Mance
These select abstract pieces span the past seven years of Mance's artwork. They represent the sum total of many days spent working along side of apathy and perseverance - inspiration and melancholy (and the occasional bit of good luck).
As Mance looked back over those seven years, she acknowledged the transformation her artwork made in things such as; scale, material, design, color, and overall composition. Although one can certainly acknowledge those differences, the works do share a common thread. They all strive to mimic the lay-outs of improbable objects or the mistranslation of an undiscovered language. Perhaps the location of a secret hiding place or intelligence gathered from deep within the mind. Not a real engineer, Mance perceives her art as blueprints of objects that could never manifest within known physical reality.
Deanna Mance is a local artist who was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Pittsburgh in 2004. She has been a practicing artist for eight years and has shown regionally, as well as internationally in London. Mance's artwork uses motifs of intricate, geometric elements that are organically arranged. She employs freehand drawing and printmaking techniques as well as a wide variety of media such as; ink, acrylics, graphite, tea-stained paper, wood, and other organic materials.
