About the Artwork: The Boxes
chak_girls

A native of Hong Kong, artist Chung (Fanky) Chak makes digital photo collages on a massive scale. The square 40" X 40" prints from his series, "The Boxes," focus on different urban environments, Hong Kong, New York, Tokyo, and Montreal among them, examining visual stereotypes and expectations. By taking thousands of photographs of windows taken around the world and creating a new environment, Chak's intention is to illustrate common stereotypes we have about a community, and let the audience decide whether it is true or not. Each window, now part of a larger collage, loses its geographical reference and becomes only a small part of the whole.
