2011 Art Inter/National
|
We thank all the artists that took the time to submit their artwork to our 10th Annual Art Inter/National Exhibition.
The Art Inter/National Exhibition began in January 2002 with the concept of exploring space, how the immediate environment impacts the artistic process and influences what each artist creates. The tradition of this exhibition continues this January with notification to the artists selected for participation in the 2011 Art Inter/National Exhibition.
Over 295 entries, from regional, national, and international artists, were received this year. Of these entries, 20 artists were selected for participation and 29 works of art in a variety of media will be exhibited.

Featured Artists:
Steve BoksenbaumRecognizable imagery is merely a template for play with the media Boksenbaum uses. He gathers images photographically, which removes them one step from reality and into the timeless two dimensional realm. From there, Boksenbaum reconstructs them as broad geometric areas and work in layers of paint, each layer refining the areas and complementing the colors. The effect is an atmosphere of paint, another step away from the original reality and into a redefined universe. John HumphriesHumphries is a visual artist and designer focusing on mediated transformations in multiple media - - essentially mapping and re-mapping the same date using various media. Original watercolor drawings in the throws of shifting from two dimensional drawings to three dimensional constructs are derived from narratives referencing the classical narrative of Pelops, son of Tantalus, a story of transformation, rebirth, deception, lust, and a haunted progeny.
Robert Bishop Robert Bishop's art is an exploration in wood where he utilizes various domestic and exotic hardwoods to serve as his canvas. Bishop will often harvest or hand-select specific species of wood for a project. He finds wood that is highly figured or has an interesting grain pattern the most fascinating. To obtain a striking visual effect, Bishop will incorporate one or more secondary wood species or introduce a stone, metal, paper, or fabric component for a contrasting yet complimentary union of materials.
Jelena JovancovThe intention of Jovancov's artwork is to ask a universal question about reality and reflection. Jovancov photographs her surroundings, these photographs are trails, marks, and legends. She uses these frozen moments and reinterprets them in traditional printmaking techniques: intaglio printmaking (aquatint, soft-ground or sugar etching, etching, intaglio engraving on linoleum or other materials), relief (woodcut, linocut).
