There is a thrill in the intimacy of making - an intimacy in the scale of jewelry with which Huff primarily chooses to work; an intimacy with her materials that comes from knowing how a piece of copper will bend or how a layer of dusty enamel will begin to glow and shine.

Sonja Sweterlitsch

Sweterlitsch begins each portrait with a light drawing followed by an under-painting in raw umber, sienna and white, laying down the major shapes, and the lights and darks. Then she adds thin glazes, layer by layer, to create details on top of the general shapes.
