Mox Box Consulting selected by the Airport Art Panel for Showcase G20
Pittsburgh, PA - September 23, 2009 - Passengers and visitors are enjoying two new art exhibitions, now open at Pittsburgh International Airport. The Allegheny County Airport Authority announced that the Warhol Museum and Mox Box Consulting were selected by the Airport Art Panel for Showcase G20, an exhibit for Pittsburgh Summit guests that will be on display through the end of the year.
"This is an exciting opportunity to promote our region's art and culture. Both exhibits were thoughtfully prepared and are G20 focused. Pittsburgh International Airport is the front door to our region, and our goal is to make the facility welcoming to world leaders, international guests, and news media," said Glenn R. Mahone, Chairman, Allegheny County Airport Authority.
At the airport, The Warhol, one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, will show off 11 of Warhol's fine art prints and photographs of him throughout his life. Another aspect of the exhibition will be posters and publications from shows seen around the world in the past 15 years, including G20 nations Australia, Japan, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Displays are in the concourses C and D in the airside terminal.
Mox Box Consulting, a Pittsburgh based arts management and consulting partnership between Box Heart and Moxie DaDA Galleries, calls its exhibit Urbanic 2: Catalyzing a Regional Economic Renaissance. It features the art of 5 Pittsburgh artists working in a variety of media, all with a uniquely visionary approach to community city life. The exhibit is located in display cases on the south end of the Ticketing Level of the landside terminal. |
Urbanic 2: Catalyzing a Regional Economic Renaissance
Urbanic 2 presents the artwork of 5 artists documenting the effects of time and history on specific neighborhoods and buildings in Pittsburgh. Through abstracted form, each artist presents where Pittsburgh has been and where it is going.
For example, in Donna Broderick's sculptural work "61C" the viewer travels through communities that both played a significant role in the heritage of the steel industry as well as through today's socio-economic and culturally diverse neighborhoods. The piece speaks to the region's transformation - from a culture that arose from industry to a region embracing change trough innovation and environmentally responsible change.
Artists Randie Snow and Thomas Brunger are inspired by extreme cases of decay in Pittsburgh and the relics that are left behind. They are fascinated by the transformation of an object or place going from desirable to unwanted or abandoned.
Communication is a theme throughout Megan Herwig's artwork, with the emphasis being less about what is being said and more about the interaction happening. Imaginary landscapes that are loosely topographic with clouds of blocks, Herwig orients herself in time and space, constantly re-evaluating place and position.
Keith Garubba's artwork, with its use of spiritual visuals and biological metaphors, centers on healing as one of its primary themes. What more can we hope for our future but to heal all things? This is a vision and a hope for Pittsburgh's future; that the networks and institutions that we have in place today can make a better tomorrow for the entire city.
