21st Century Skills
Moral & Performance Character Highlighted

We want to help make Iowa smart and good.

CC! In Iowa is proud to partner with the Institute for Excellence & Ethics, as the first regional center in the nation, in the dissemination of "Smart & Good" programming for Iowa schools, businesses and communities.

Smart & Good integrates moral character and performance character.

Performance character consists of qualities needed to realize one's potential for excellence in school, the workplace or any area of endeavor, such as diligence, perseverance, strong work ethic, positive attitude, ingenuity, and self-discipline.

Moral character consists of qualities needed for successful interpersonal relationships and ethical behavior, such as integrity, justice, caring, respect, responsibility and cooperation.

Smart & Good identifies specific competencies that are developed with good character.

Sample competencies include: communicate effectively, lead others, be creative, take responsibility for mistakes and be self-directed.  Many of these sample competencies have also been identified as 21st Century Skills.

We'll continue to bring you more information on Smart & Good as the project progresses. Check out our website to learn more about Smart & Good.
