The Winter Heats Up with our Beyond Europe Trips
For many of us, winter brings with it pretty
miserable cycling conditions. But even those lucky enough to live in
nice year-round cycling weather can use a wintertime biking break!
Whether you want to escape the snow and ice or escape your everyday
routine, one of our Beyond Europe trips could be just the ticket! Our trips to Chile & Argentina, New Zealand,
and
Vietnam are sure to make you forget about your winter blues and have
you start
doing the cha cha. Make like the birds and head south this winter where
summer is in full swing. There's still plenty of
time to plan a winter vacation, so call and speak with a trip
specialist today! This could be the perfect gift to yourself this
holiday season.
Chile & Argentina
- 8 days (+2-day post-extension)
Discover an unspoiled and often less-visited countryside in
the Andes and Chile's Lake District, just north of Patagonia. The area's
landscape has been sculpted over millennia by glaciers and volcanoes and has
created the backdrop for our riding-tranquil lakes, coastal cities, ancient
forests, snow-capped mountains, waterfalls and thermal springs. By bike, you will explore the Andes,
cruise across Pirehueico Lake and meet the largest group of indigenous people
in the area. You will also have
the option to extend your stay on a three-day Santiago and Chilean Vineyard
Tour, including a visit to Chile's capital, sommelier lectures and three
private winery visits.

New Zealand - 10
days (+4-day post-extension)
Cycling New Zealand's South Island is like soaring through a
virtually untouched microcosm of the natural world. The region from Christchurch to Queenstown offers diverse
ecosystems from the mountains of the Southern Alps to the shores of the Tasman
Sea. It's a mystical land where
untamed rivers carve paths through lush rain forests. Lakes and glaciers bask in the shadows of volcanic slopes
and snow-capped peaks. Excursions
include a trip close to Mt. Cook, a hike to the base of Fox and/or Franz Josef
Glacier, jade carving and a sheep farm visit, kayaking through the rainforest,
and of course, incredible cycling on some of New Zealand's best roads. Extend your stay with an optional 5-day
tour to either Milford or Doubtful Sound.

Vietnam - 11 days
(+3-day post-extension)
Visit this mystical land where ancient temples, French
colonial mansions, vast white sand beaches and mountain hill towns blend
together into one harmonious experience.
Vietnam's stunning beauty is unlike any on Earth, and the best way to
see it is by bicycle! Bustling
villages dot the way on this route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh through lush
forests, dramatic mountainscapes, and pristine seashores. Enjoy boat rides, talks with local
historians (including an anthropologist, craftsman, historian, and UPI
journalist), a visit to a local orphanage, all from the comfort of premier accommodations
along the way. Extend your stay
with an optional 4-day Angkor Wat, Cambodia tour.

Announcing Monthly Ciclismo Webinars
 If
you're a Ciclismo Alum, you know how wonderful our guides are - they're
engaging, funny, professional, and knowledgeable about all sorts of
stuff. To allow them to share their enthusiasm with a wider audience,
we're launching monthly Ciclismo Classico Webinars! What's a webinar?
It's an interactive presentation that anyone can log into from a web
browser, watch a slide show, listen to a presenter, and submit
questions in real time. All you need is a computer with an internet
connection, a browser, and headphones or speakers. In
our free
webinar series, you'll be able to hear about our trips, learn effective
cycling
techniques, and even pick up some foreign languages! There's no
pressure for you to participate - you can just watch and listen, or
type questions or comments that the hosts will see immediately. We're
scheduling the sessions on Fridays at 1:30pm Eastern Time, so they'll
fall roughly around lunchtime for everybody in North America. (We might
offer them at different times if that works better - just let us know!) Please
join
us for our very first webinar on Friday, December 18. You'll
learn all about what it's like on a Ciclismo trip from two of our top
guides, Cristiano Bonino and Federica Luppi. They'll show some
beautiful photos, talk about a few destinations, share stories, and
answer your questions. And just to be in the holiday spirit, they'll
explain about La Befana, a broom-riding witch from Italian folklore who
makes an appearance every holiday season! Our First Ciclismo Webinar:
When: Friday, December 18, 1:30-2:00 EST Presenters: Star Ciclismo guides Cristiano Bonino & Federica Luppi Topic: A day in the life of a Ciclismo Trip RSVP: Email andrew@ciclismoclassico.com for an invitation to log in, or RSVP on Facebook Hope to see you online! |
Ciclismo Staff's Holiday Wish List
Can't decide what to buy your favorite Ciclismo trip consultant or
guide? We've got the answers for you right here! You can also use our
ideas as inspiration for the cyclists in your life.
Andrew C.: Retro-grouch I still believe that the best bike
frames are lugged steel and the best jerseys are nice, soft wool. While
I can never have enough jerseys from Earth, Wind, & Rider, I would love the Vincitore from Mercian Cycles
in Derby, England. Beautiful curlicue lugs, barber-shop pole striping
on the seat tube, and fine pinstripes. There are lots of new
framebuilders doing this sort of thing, but Mercian still builds em
like they always have!
Lauren Hefferon: Bici Pazza Give me color, lots of color. Since
I have been cycling seriously for a looong time, I have owned and worn
my share of boring bike clothes, helmets and gear. This holiday season
I covet bike attire that does not have that Biker Uniform look. I'll
start with the ultimate cycling badge: The helmet. I already bought
myself a Nutcase because
the designs are so funky, I can't depend on anyone to pick out the one
I like most. Perfect for your kids or the kid in you. If you want a
simple but highly functional bike bag, try Traffic Cone Bag It's a 3-in-1 reversible, neon-orange/black bag for cyclists, walkers,
travelin' gals & guys and minimalist multi-purpose freaks, designed
and road tested by my cycling heroine, friend and CC alumna, Lynette Chiang, AKA The Galfromdownunder. Now, I don't dress up for work but if I did, here's what I'd love: this Cycodleic Cape classic grace and elegance that looks fabulous both on and off the bike.
If the ladies in Copenhagen can wear heels and a poncho biking
to work, why can't we?
MJ: Biker/Foodie
I have always liked to be a bit different - that's why I love my new custom flying pigs paint job from Hot Tubes.
But while flying pigs are always good to have on my bike, there's
nothing better than an awesome BBQ done right, so what I'd really like
is a big Green Egg.
Davide: Wrench & Roller I
love all sorts of tools and gadgets and there are plenty of great gifts
for someone like me! How about a shop apron,
Pizza Cutter,
or handy multi-tool?
Andrew K.: Budget Road Racer I'm
planning to ride through the winter, despite the snow and ice we get
every year in Boston. To keep warm and look trendy, I will ask
Bobo Natale for some winter clothes made by London-based Rapha. In particular, the "Winter Training Bundle," which includes a wool long sleeve jersey, Italian Thermoroubaix tights, and a wool cap. Grazie mille in anticipo!
Joe: Ciclista Modernista A "mod" commuter bike to complement my classic Italian road
bike. I like the Republic build-your-own steel framed, flip-flop
fixed/free gear bike that you can build online to suit your taste. I'll go for
the classic black matte frame, saddle brown seat and grips, silver
crankset and black wheels, please.
Justin: Recreational Cyclist As
someone who's working their way up to longer and longer distances, I've
found stopping for frequent water bottle refills to be a bit of a
nuisance. Even with two water bottles, the second always ends up
losing its cool before I get to it. That's why I'd love a Camelbak
this year. There's lots of different sizes to choose from, but even a
72oz pack is enough to fill 3 or even 4 water bottles. Even better is
that it comes in handy when not cycling - they're excellent for hiking
and skiing, too!
Cristiano: Humble Italian Cyclist
There's
really nothing that I desire for myself except for inner peace, and
that's a gift that only I can give myself! I already have everything I
could ever want, including all kinds of bikes and gear. If I were to
ask for anything, it would be support for a cause that helps others
like the Slow Food movement, which promotes healthy
eating and farming, and appreciation of the things that really matter.
Buon Natale!

Ciclismo Classico's New Gift Registry
And
speaking of gifts, maybe you've got your heart set on a Ciclismo Trip,
but the depth of your desire isn't matched by the depth of your
loved-one's pockets. If that's the case, then the Ciclismo Classico Gift Registry is for you! Planning a honeymoon? A graduation coming up?
Maybe your anniversary? Perfect!
Our registry works a lot like
other gift registries you've used. You choose what you'd like, then
invite your friends and family to contribute. We make it easy with a
customized web page just for you that describes your chosen trip,
communicates a heart-felt message from you (complete with photos if you
like!), and shows how much has been contributed so far. There's also a
link to an easy-to-use payment form.
Here's all you need to do:
- Consider all your options - browse our website, call our trip consultants, and
engage with our community on Facebook.
- Once you've made up your mind, contact our Registry Coordinator, who will set up your customized webpage
- Send the link to your Registry to all your friends and family via email, Facebook, and Twitter (we can help with this too)
- Send customized Ciclismo e-postcards to your benefactors to express your gratitude
- Watch as the balance on your registry climbs and count down to your trip date!
To start the ball rolling, we will contribute $250 to the first 5 gift registries we set up! ($250 applies only to trips purchased through Registry, no other discounts apply.)
