LET FREEDOM RING July is upon us hot weather and all. Images of beaches, barbecues and blueberries are readily brought to mind. So were the colors of red white and blue as we stopped on July 4th to celebrate Independence Day, our freedom and our liberty. Even though, since the implementation of the Patriot Act, security is much tighter and the level of surveillance has dramatically increased, when compared to many parts of the world, here in the US we enjoy Constitutionally protected freedoms such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly to name just a few, every day. As we recently witnessed with all of the uprisings of people around the world who are tired of living under the rule of tyrants, freedom is very precious and should never be taken for granted. There is another freedom that we as Americans enjoy. And that is our health freedom. At this point in time, we have the freedom to be able to make our own decisions concerning our health and our health care. We can decide what kind of food we choose to eat, what supplements, if any, we wish to take. Or if we want vaccines, or not. We have the freedom to choose from a wide array of practitioners, both traditional allopathic as well as alternative and advocates of natural healing. Health freedom is a precious right and it makes sense to ensure that our health freedoms never get taken away. Thomas Jefferson said "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance". If you care about your health freedom, then you need to be educated by the groups that work to keep a watchful eye on the government and other regulators who may be working to restrict our health freedoms as we know them. In Canada and The EU supplements have begun to be severely regulated by the integration of Codex Alimentarius. Once fully integrated, supplements will no longer be able to be purchased freely and in many cases will require a doctor's prescription which will only allow for supplements in small (thus ineffective) doses. If Codex law comes to pass here in the US, supplements will be classified as "drugs" thus putting them into the regulation of the FDA, something that DSHEA has prevented so far. I don't know about you, but as a strong advocate of natural remedies, losing our ability to self-regulate vitamins, minerals, herbal remedies and the like would be disastrous for our health, but probably great for the drug companies. And it was recently reported that on Friday before the long holiday weekend (a great time to have your way when no one is watching) the FDA along with congressional support initiated a proposal of a new rule that, if enacted, would outlaw virtually all vitamins and dietary supplements formulated after 1994. I urge you to take the time to familiarize yourself with this information. Congressional efforts to overturn DSHEA, a law that keeps vitamins and supplements out of the regulation of the FDA thus far have been defeated only because of the push back from the people who spoke out.
