imaginationThe Power of Imagination

Remember when you were a kid and using your imagination was something you did every day? When asked to draw a picture or write a story, remember how easy it was to do?I don't know about you, but when we were kids we did not have a lot of toys games and objects of entertainment like kids do today. Instead we had to make up pretend games which, in looking back, was a lot of fun. We played school, we played store, we had parades and plays for the neighbors. We had to rely upon our imagination because quite frankly, there were not many other options. Remember being in school and looking out the window and dreaming you were anywhere but there?  We used our imagination quite routinely until we were taught to become more cerebral, and when this happened, our strong creative ability started to diminish. Told that daydreaming was "bad" we were instructed to keep our attention in the five sense only real world.

Sadly, unless you start exercising this lost art of imagination you will find that manifesting your desires will often be difficult. It's not enough to just want something, even if you want it badly! Actually wanting "badly" sends a signal to the Universe that something is "not here yet" and thus sends out the lack signal.  And we all know that having a LACK mentality will just bring you more of that. It's far better to get clear on what you really want, set the intention with conviction that your intention will go out and be "heard" by the benevolent Universe. Then you must trust that the details will be worked out in a series of events that will unfold according to the plan that is right for your soul's evolution. Keep your eyes open with awareness, as you might be surprised at the synchronicity that shows up.

As you wait (with confidence patience and knowing) you can fire up your imagination in order to get into the feelings of joy as you start to "see" the end result. Close your eyes and pretend that you've reached your goal. Look around. What do you see? Listen carefully. What do you hear? Stop and feel your feelings. How do you feel? Get into the feelings of already having what you want. That vibration will speed up the manifesting. Trust me.

During the winter Olympics I watched an interview of Shaun White the amazing Gold Medalist. When asked how he developed his skill he replied, "Every night before I go to sleep I imagine that I am on the slopes  and I see and feel my every move" a technique I have no doubt that other successful athletes use. I know that when I decided to run road races years ago, I would often use this technique before falling asleep at night. I would see myself go over the finish line, hear the people clapping, and  feel that sense of accomplishment. I continue today to hold my vision for my branching off into a new holistic direction with my nursing. A vision of teaching coaching and inspiring others to wake up to what it takes to achieve wellness of body mind and spirit. And as I remain focused on my goal with complete confidence I must say I am constantly amazed at how things keep "showing up" that are part of the plan unfolding exactly as it is meant to.

Go ahead and start day dreaming again. Pretend that there is a large canvas in front of you and you are holding the palette of paint. Start painting it any way you want. Make it as big as you want and don't hold back. It's your design totally. Have fun with it and then step back and watch! You are more powerful than you have been led to believe. Hold your vision and see it done.

coconut oilCoconut Oil: Nature's Superstar
In his book, The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth Jonny Bowden classifies the coconut as a superfood that is one of the most healthy and amazing foods you could eat. Although we are still avoiding fat like the plague (when it's really not the bad guy in the food - that title is reserved for sugar) having been led to believe that tropical fats were bad, even dangerous because they could plug up arteries, research has proven that this is not the case. Coconut oil actually has many health benefits one of which is lowering cholesterol naturally.

Research on the coconut started back in the 60's and 70's when a long-term multidisciplinary study was set up to examine the health of natives from two specific Pacific Islands whose diets included a lot of coconuts. The study found that the coconut eaters had very little if any heart disease, atherosclerosis or colon cancer. They were lean and fit, and it was only when these islanders moved to more populated areas and changed their diet and exchanged the coconut oil for the vegetable oils that are touted as "healthier" did their incidence of heart disease rise in a dramatic manner.

Coconut oil is a saturated fat, and it's wise to not overdo any fat because of the the number of calories in a gram of it (nine) over a gram of a  carbohydrate or a protein (four) However the saturated fat in coconut is nothing to fear at all. Remember the body needs fat and can't function optimally without it. We need fat for energy and for production of Vitamins A and D and for producing certain hormones. Coconut oil is classified as a medium chain triglyceride which makes it easier to metabolize. This means your body will actually use the fat for energy, instead of storing it which is what your body does with the long chain cousins in vegetable oil. This may explain why taking in coconut oil on a daily basis will very often cause a boost in energy and loss of weight!


About half of the fat in coconut oil is lauric acid which converts in the body to something called monolaurin which is a natural antiviral and antibacterial.  The distinguished lipid biochemist Mary Enig Ph.D. has written much about the immune enhancing benefits of coconut oil, and her research is easily found on-line. I've used it on dry skin and put it on my hair as a conditioner. Mothers of infants have cleared diaper rash with the application of coconut oil to the affected area.

Those of you who know me as someone who is on a mission to help people feel better know how committed I am to inspiring others to become food literate. It's no secret that the food industry purposefully engages in deceptive advertising practices in order to push really unhealthy food to unsuspecting masses who then get illnesses related to the food on their plates!  My goal is to bring information to others so that they can make an informed decision regarding their diet and lifestyle, hopefully decisions related to better food choices. No one disputes that when you eat better you feel better.

This bill, which has been presented to the unsuspecting masses as a bill that protects your safety is really about food being changed forever, as things like organic farming practices would be no more. It is appalling to me to even think that there are major forces that want to take away our right to choose healthy organic unadulterated food. Sadly, over time most of our food has become refined, processed, nutritionally stripped, chemical-ized, poisoned, sprayed, genetically altered, radiated and who know what else. The human body was made to eat real food, clean food, and if S510 gets pushed through, our days of freedom to eat what we want will be over. Ask yourself, who stands to gain if this legislation gets passed?

For your sake and the sake of your children (who by the way will wind up dying younger than any prior generation because of food induced illness like heart disease diabetes and cancer) please watch Dr. Rima Laibow's 6 minute video where she succinctly explains what is at stake. Women in Transition 
This weekly support group is designed to assist women through a period of transformation and empower them to move life forward, becoming self directed, self motivated and self confident in the process. This group may be helpful if you are going through divorce or separation, career change, empty nest, mid-life blues, lack of energy, feeling stuck, or unable to manage stress. This is a future oriented,solutions based approach that includes nutritional and life-style coaching along with stress management techniques.
