From Panic to Power: Dealing with Anxiety Anxiety manifests primarily in physical symptoms more than any other emotion. Racing heartbeat, sweaty palms, a stomach that literally feels twisted in knots: when you're anxious, you know it. Some anxiety can be normal, like what you feel before taking a test. Or it can be downright debilitating like agoraphobia, panic attacks and the inability to enjoy life. Anxiety is the root cause of all addictions. It contributes to hypertension, weight gain, heart attacks and stroke, low self-esteem and even suicides.
What causes anxiety? Anxiety is driven by fear, particularly the fear of losing control on some level. We can feel anxious if we sense we're losing something like love, respect, dignity, security, etc. The mindset of an anxious individual consists of a lot of "what-if" thinking, or catastrophic worse case scenario thoughts. Anxious people live
in a perpetual state of "waiting for the other shoe to drop". And because we are creatures of habit the body
actually acclimates to anxiety and develops neural pathways where eventually feeling anxious
becomes the norm.
Why can some people just go with the flow? It's not what happens to us, but how we deal with what happens to us. Genetics, chemical make-up (being hard-wired for fear) learned beliefs at an early age like, "the world is not safe" all contribute to either our ability or inability to cope with stress. Optimists tend to be less anxious than pessimists.
Did you know that twelve and a half million people suffer from chronic anxiety? 800 million dollars is spent annually on anti-anxiety medication. Despite our prosperity as a nation and our opportunity as a people, living a calm and peaceful life seems to elude so many. Look at the world
we live in. With the current economic down slide and all of the natural disasters, who isn't experiencing more anxiety these days?
So what is the answer? The most popular treatments of course are pharmaceuticals such as SSRI's, along with tranquilizers. But what can also be effective are things like meditation, focused breathing, acupuncture and energy psychology therapies such as EFT. While medications may reduce the feelings of anxiety and work for the short term, they rarely if ever get to the root cause of the problem. And they can cause some uncomfortable and serious side effects. Chronic anxiety is like an electrical storm where we are out of balance, out of alignment and out of control. By re-balancing our body's subtle energies we can drastically and fairly quickly reduce the detrimental effects of the stress of chronic anxiety by changing the polarity of those anxiety magnets. As an EFT practitioner I see the future of our healing resting in the integration of energy psychology and energy medicine approaches. As Gary Craig, founder of EFT said, "We are on the ground floor of the healing high-rise..." And it will be things like EFT and other energy therapies that will take us up to the top. If you or someone you love suffers from anxiety, perhaps you might like to know how EFT can help. I offer a free consultation. For more information, please click here.

Eating Better For Less | Within any conversation having to do with improved nutrition there will inevitably be the argument that it is just too expensive to eat healthy food. I not only challenge that argument that to eat right we have to spend a lot of money, I believe that on more levels than one it's actually costlier to continue eating processed refined foods.
Let's take the example of the average working American who is busy and rushed and does not have the luxury of time. This person's day may consist of skipping breakfast altogether, or buying a coffee and a bagel or muffin on the way in to work. Coffees are no longer cheap, except the McDonald's 1.00 coffee, but let's face it, if you are at McDonald's for coffee, you are probably leaving with a breakfast sandwich too. Not a healthy start. Add up the cost. Next comes lunch. If you haven't taken the time to bring your food to work, chances are you will spend at least $5-8 or more for your lunch. Or perhaps you rely on convenient frozen prepared meals or canned soup that you heat up in the microwave. Those frozen meals are not cheap. You are paying for the convenience of having a prepared meal, and prepared meals contain a lot of preservatives and sugar and other things like trans-fats.
Dinner for the working person can often be take-out. Convenient? Yes. Costly? Yep. Healthy? Not at all. Or dinner may consist of more processed refined food. Or... maybe you are just too tired to do anything and decide to skip the entire process. But before your head hits the pillow you are grabbing something, anything to quell your appetite. Many people are late night eaters and usually it's with chips or crackers or other nutritionally deplete food. What about the times you go out to eat at a restaurant. Delicious? Most definitely. Restaurant food is highly inundated with MSG and sodium, two know contributors to obesity. That is why it tastes so good. And it's another cost to consider.
Chips, cookies, candy, processed food, take-out and fast-food. Eating out. The costs add up. It is far less expensive to prepare food at home. To say nothing about the cost your body pays when you eat a diet that consists of chemically laden highly and nutritionally deplete refined food. Dr.Walter Willet from Harvard School of Public Health suggests that we eat three meals a day. And every meal should consist of a portion of healthy protein (beans, nuts, eggs, supplemented by fish and fowl) whole grain high fiber carbohydrates (switching from white bread and white rice to whole grain bread and brown rice) and some good fats (coconut oil, olive oil, avocados, even a pat of real butter) Giving up soda and switching to water is smart and less expensive, especially if you filter your own water. Fruit is healthier than sugary concentrated sweets. Brown rice or quinoa can be bought in bulk and cooked in a rice cooker. Real oatmeal can also be bought in bulk. There are many ways to eat better and not break the bank in the process.
It absolutely matters to your overall health what you eat! You are what you eat. There is a new documentary called Food Matters that is a must to watch so that you can understand the importance of conscious eating, or becoming food aware. Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps Did you know that many of the liquid body soaps on the market today have toxic chemicals in them that can be absorbed through the skin? Just as we have to learn how to learn to detect the chemicals in the food that we ingest, it's a wise practice be alert to the dangers lurking within the soaps, shampoos, conditioners and even body lotions that we lather on our bodies on a daily basis. There are many harmful petroleum based (think motor oil)-chemicals such as 1,4-dioxane, sodium laurel sulfate and formaldehyde that are in most of the commercial skin care products on the market. Even baby shampoos labeled "pure and gentle" contain harsh cancer causing agents. Read the label and I will bet you will not be able to pronounce most of the ingredients. Remember your skin is your largest organ and it absorbs readily, that is why medication patches are so effective!
Knowing that I am always on the hunt for safe and natural products and remedies, my friend Noreen introduced me to a wonderful liquid body soap that is organic, pure, affordable, and works like a charm to make you feel clean and refreshed. It's called Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap and it is made only with organic extra virgin coconut, olive, jojoba and hemp oil. It is also Certified Fair Trade. You can use it as both shampoo and body wash. And when you use it you can't help but benefit from the natural aroma-therapy that will be a result of showering with this. I am loving this soap and you might consider trying it for yourself. Middle Age and Menopause: Moving from Misery to Magnificence
As women we are living longer. The average lifespan of the American woman is 80 now as opposed to 48 back in 1900. This means that women are likely to live at least 35 years or more after menopause, making it the "springtime" of the second half of life.
What does the aging process mean to you? Are you excited about perhaps accessing new energy to transition to the second half of your life? Or are you stuck with beliefs about how awful it is to get older, especially if you are a woman.
I invite you to join me at my May workshop where we will look at our beliefs about aging with the goal of "tossing out" the ones that do not serve us. With that in mind, you can learn how to move through the "misery" of menopause and aging and see your life from a fresh new vantage point, getting clear about finding your "magnificence" In addition to learning how to apply EFT for stress relief (a simple meridian tapping procedure) there will also be discussion related to how improved nutrition, sleep and exercise can decrease many of the uncomfortable physical symptoms experienced during menopause.
Date: Saturday May 22nd Time: 1 PM to 5 PM Linguine's Italian Restaurant 350 Boston Post Road Marlboro MA Cost: $49.00*
*If you bring a friend, the cost becomes $39.00 each!
*If you have attended a workshop in the past, the cost is $25.00 To sign up to attend this class call me at 508-523-7132 or email me at tmarian@aol.com

It is my passion and desire to contribute to the betterment of the world by spreading the message that a state of well being is for everyone. No matter how old you are, or what stage you are in, or what you have been through, I believe that you can find your way back to the Wholeness that was always your birthright. We are born magnificent beings but get conditioned into mediocrity. It is up to you to pick up the map to find your way back. And I'll help you anyway I can. "If you want to know the quality of what you radiate, just observe how people respond to you. They are your mirror." Gary Craig.
Have a great month! ~Tina
