Wisdom for a Happy New Year 2010. As we enter 2010 my intention for you is that your experience of life is one of fullness. A life where you can embrace both joy and sorrow and still experience peace. Knowing that life can deliver all sort of situations, may your spirit become bigger than any of the challenges that come your way.
I want to share a quote with you I heard a while ago that I've since referred to in my everyday life. While attending an EFT class last year the facilitator ended the program by writing this quote on the board. I do not recall the author, but the quote went like this: "Make nothing all that important, be vitally interested in everything, and keep your vibration high". After pondering this in depth, I believe there is much wisdom here and by heeding this advice, we might begin to free ourselves up to enjoy life the way we were meant to, in peace and harmony. Let's break it down.
"Make nothing all that important". I interpret that to mean for us not to allow anything to be so all consuming that we wind up losing our energy and our center in the process. Look back at all of the times we got caught up in something that felt oh-so-catastrophic at the time, and yet we eventually made it through to the other side. It's not to say that we be cold callous and indifferent to our situations. On the contrary, by staying cool objective and focused we free up our energy to help us deal with our issues with greater clarity.
"Be vitally interested in everything". Ever notice how we are always judging? Pay attention to your thoughts when talking with others. When our beliefs and opinions are a match to those we are speaking with, we are more apt to listen to what they are saying to us. But when our beliefs and opinions differ from theirs, we tend to shut down our interest in listening to what they say. This is especially true in the areas of religion and politics, but it is also true in the course of everyday discussions. Wouldn't it be easier if we let go of some of our need to be right all of the time and go with the flow of the conversation, whether we agree with the person or not. Once we can get over our feeling of being threatened by the viewpoints of others that differ from ours, we might be surprised to learn something new. Appreciate that there are many views out there, not just your own. Ask yourself, would you rather be right or at peace?
"Keep your vibration high". We are vibrational beings and thus we are always emitting a particular frequency to the Universe who will seek to match our signal with like energy. When we carry the energy of any of the lower vibrations, such as guilt, shame, anger, frustration or judgement, our energetic vibrational frequency is low and slow which invites more situations that reflect back to us what we are feeling. Conversely, when we carry the energy of hope, optimism, gratitude, compassion or love, we vibrate fast high positive energy and we line up more situations that will reflect more of that vibration. So it behooves us to look for ways to keep that vibration up. It's great advice!
Emotional Freedom Techniques can be easily applied to just about any stressful situation, and will lead to moving to a improved feeling and thus imporved vibration. Vitamin D: The Wonder Drug Vitamin D is finally starting to get the attention it deserves. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is estimated that 85% of the general population is Vitamin D deficient. Symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency include: Restless sleep and fatigue, joint and muscle pain, poor concentration and memory, uncontrolled weight gain and obesity, depression including SAD, chronic pain and fibromyalgia, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes and cancer. Some have even gone on to say that H1N1 illness is just another name for a Vitamin D deficiency. If the research is correct as it is coming in today, Vitamin D has the ability to keep you well protected from a wide range of maladies.
Vitamin D is not really a vitamin at all. While vitamins come from dietary sources, D is actually produced by the body. Pre-vitamin D is produced in the liver and with a reaction to UV sunlight and heat forms D3 in the skin which is further synthesized by the liver and kidneys into a potent hormone group that includes estrogen, testosterone, cortisol and progesterone. Sunlight exposure is very essential to the synthesizing of Vitamin D. This is why we find winter the season of colds and flu. It is not because the weather is colder, instead we do not get the same exposure to the sun.
Remember the stories of our parents and grandparents taking a spoonful of Cod liver oil every day? I guess they were on to something. Sources of vitamin D include pure Cod liver oil (some of the refined versions of Cod liver oil have had the vitamin D removed so read the label) Foods high in Vitamin D include cold water fish like salmon and mackerel, canned tuna and eggs (yolk) You can also take an oral supplement but make sure you get Vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol. If you are supplementing, it is important to have your D level analyzed periodically. A dose of 2000-6000 IU of D3 will be adequate to keep your level in an ideal range which is between 50 and 70 ng/ml.
A few more facts: Vitamin A which is a fat soluble vitamin is often combined with Vitamin D, and therefore if you are supplementing avoid A and D combinations as it could lead to excessive Vitamin A toxicity. People who frequent tanning salons will generally have adequate Vitamin D levels. And know that even with excessive sun exposure, your body has a way of inactivating excess Vitamin D formed in the skin. By all means look to ensure that you are not deficient of this very important health promoting disease resisting substance. A book I would highly recommend is "The Vitamin D Cure" by James Dowd, M.D.

The Dirty Dozen When chemical pesticides were first introduced for large scale industrial use in the 1940's they were welcomed as a modern miracle of agriculture. Unfortunately the toxicity that was lethal to insects may be poisoning us slowly as well. Pesticides cause many adverse effects such as cancer, nervous system damage, and endocrine problems in well designed animal studies. Although with the help of our liver colon and other organs that work to eliminate toxins, taking in too many pesticides can cause a toxic overload in the body, throwing it out of balance. In toxic overload, the body cannot efficiently eliminate toxins and fat cells will actually absorb the pesticides in an effort to protect the system. So, weight gain may not have anything to do with additional calories. It may be your body's way of handling all of the toxins that come in via food and environment.
The Environmental Working Group, a strong consumer advocate, conducted research to identify which fruits and vegetables had the most amount of pesticide residue. They then rated them from most heavily contaminated to the least contaminated. They offer a handy little guide that can be referenced when shopping for produce. (When you see the list, you may want to rethink that "An apple a day...." theory.) Although I listed the two groups below, you can access the list for yourself and read more about their research by visiting www.foodnews.org
The Dirty Dozen: These are high in pesticides and you should always try and buy the organic version when eating any of these: peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, grapes (imported), pears, spinach and white potatoes.
The Clean Fifteen: These have far less pesticides and it is safe to buy these as conventional: onions, avocado, sweet corn (frozen), asparagus, kiwi, papaya, cabbage, broccoli and eggplant, tomato, watermelon, pineapple, mango, sweet peas (frozen), sweet potato.
Take note of the following fact. Supermarkets that sell organic produce are bound to make sure the produce is organic on the way in to their store. They are not bound to make sure that the product is organic on the way out and into your home. People pay a high price for organic produce feeling that they are safe from dangerous chemicals. The truth is that most markets spray their produce with a fine mist to keep them moist. Realize that the water supply that they use is municipal water, water that is treated with chlorine and fluoride. So your wonderful expensive organic pesticide free produce gets sprayed with chlorinated fluoridated water that gets absorbed into the cells of the produce! When buying organic, make sure to buy produce that is wrapped or packaged and not misted by the water.

It is my passion and desire to contribute to the betterment of the world by spreading the message that a state of well being is for everyone. No matter how old you are, or what stage you are in, or what you have been through, I believe that you can find your way back to the Wholeness that was always your birthright. We are born magnificent beings but get conditioned into mediocrity. It is up to you to pick up the map to find your way back. And I'll help you anyway I can. "If you want to know the quality of what you radiate, just observe how people respond to you. They are your mirror." Gary Craig.
Have a great month! ~Tina
