Soul vs Ego: Who's Talking?
There are so many people searching to feel better. Feeling distressedfrom either physical and/or emotional pain, people want to heal. As a psychiatric nurse I can vouch that business is booming! Go to your local bookstore and find the self-help section. Look at the many books that offer countless ways to feel better. Healing is big business right now. Why? Because so many people are convinced that they are broken and in need of repair. But what if the truth of the matter is that we really are all OK? You might be tempted to argue in order to prove your case that your life is a mess and you are depressed and that there is no possible way that you are OK, but hear me out.

When you arrived here you were perfectly OK. You really were. No poor self-esteem back then. You did not compare yourself to the baby in the next bassinet in the nursery. You felt no need to worry that you were too fat or too thin or not worthy. Your only job was to make sure your caretaker knew you were around so your needs could be met. You arrived with your Soul and your Soul knew it was perfectly fine. Your convictions that you were not really good enough and therefore not OK came later as a result of beliefs about yourself that you downloaded from others. As you grew you also developed your Ego. You had to, we all had to. Simply put, our Ego is our identity. It's the picture in our head that defines who we are in the world. As our Ego developed and got stronger, we started losing touch with our Soul. But that did not mean the Soul went missing. Our perfectly connected to the Divine Soul sits ever present, watching and waiting for our return to the truth of who we really are.

You have a Soul and you have an Ego. And depending on whose view you take at any given time, you can be OK, or not. False beliefs about yourself (i.e. that something is "wrong" with you) and an Ego in the driver's seat is a set up for trouble. The Ego loves to engage in drama. The Ego likes to compare, criticize and condemn. The Ego uses words like should and can't. The Ego likes to line up all of the "evidence" for your review in order to make your (untrue) beliefs true in your mind. The Soul on the other hand is the real you. The Soul is serenity, intuition and wisdom and it understands the larger and wiser perspective as you
travel along on the Journey of Life.  The Soul is your personal connection to God or Source, another name for the Divine Healing Energy of Life itself. Because this Source is perfection, then by our personal connection, we are all just fine and well taken care of. So this idea of "I'm broken and I need to be fixed" is not really true at all. Just convictions of an ego based on non-truths. The truth is that you are fine and you always were.

From traditional psychotherapy to energy psychology and energy medicine all of these modalities really have the same end goal. A change of perspective, right? Whose perspective are you seeing your life through? Your Soul's or your Ego's? The only real work that you need to do is to look at what your beliefs are about yourself, others and your life. And consider opening up to the idea that perhaps your beliefs are not even true! The use of EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) works quickly and effectively to shine a new light on old stuck negative beliefs. EFT is safe, rapid and easy to learn. butter Pass the Butter
There are still many who believe that using margarine over butter is better for your health. You may be quite surprised to learn however that margarine is a highly processed trans-fat that can triple your risk of heart disease, increase your risk of cancer, lower quality of breast milk, decrease immunity and decrease your insulin response. Did you know that margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys and other farm animals, but after it actually sickened the animals, they had to stop using it. Researchers who invested money into the production and manufacturing of this product wanted payback, so they put their heads together to figure out what else they could do with it. Being a tasteless white substance with no real food appeal, they decided to add some yellow coloring and flavoring to it and offer it as a food as a substitute for butter. With enough help from advertisers, butter became "bad" for you and margarine was promoted as the better alternative.

Both butter and margarine have the same amount of calories (9 calories per gram), and butter is slightly higher in saturated fat content. Did you know that eating butter actually helps with the absorption of nutrients in other foods? Butter also has more natural nutritional benefits and tastes so much better than margarine. According to a recent Harvard Medical Study, eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter.

Margarine is a trans-fat and like all other trans-fats is only one molecule away from being a plastic. Margarine shares 27 ingredients with paint. Remember that the process of hydrogenation is what changes the molecular structure of what was once a natural oil to this very-close-to-plastic stuff that is used in processed foods like breads, crackers and cookies in order to prolong the shelf life. Try this yourself: Buy a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or outside. Go back and check on it after several days. You will note that no flies or insects or rodents will go near it! I  Margarine will not rot or decompose because it has absolutely no nutritional value. Not even bugs want anything to do with margarine.

So go ahead and enjoy a little bit of butter, and the next time you are tempted to use margarine, ask yourself if you would spread melted plastic food container on your toast.
tvTelevision and Your Brain
Look closely at the eyes of anyone "glued to the TV" and you may see zombie-eyes, or a spaced out expression. TV is made to grab our attention and keep us there. Everyone knows that watching TV feels relaxing. TV has the remarkable ability to shut out the rest of our crazy world and allow us to retreat somewhere else. But did you know that your brain waves are actually altered when you watch TV? Your brain actually goes into an alpha brain wave state. This is a relaxed state where you become less alert and more passive. This state is somewhat comparable to hypnosis. This state does not end by switching off the tube either. The culprit for this effect is most likely the cathode ray tubes in the TV monitors which produce a flicker that the conscious mind does not detect. According to a  Scientific American study, "survey participants commonly reflect that TV has somehow absorbed or sucked out their energy, leaving them depleted. They say they have more difficulty concentrating after viewing than before".

In the 1980's researchers in Australia found that the left brain "sort of went to sleep" once the TV was switched on as the right brain was busy storing information in the memory bank. As the right side of the brain is dutifully absorbing all of the images, your left brain which is responsible for critical analysis, has been lulled into a stupor. This makes analysis of what you see on TV difficult.

These studies have profound implications for watching news and other forms of educational TV. At best what you learn on TV is like learning in your sleep. That may be of some benefit to the producers of commercials that want to sell you something. (Did you ever see a commercial for a mouth watering meal at your favorite restaurant and suddenly felt very hungry?) The research concluded that for subjects that require careful thought and analysis, the TV is virtually useless. They conclude that it is more effective to read newspapers to learn about world events than to watch it on a TV screen.

If watching TV truly makes you more passive and therefore suceptible to "programming" a good idea is to limit the amount of time you spend watching TV. Trade your TV time for a beneficial activity such as: reading something uplifting and inspiring, getting some exercise, listening to your favorite music or meditating. You will feel better and your brain will thank you for that!

tina 1"It is my passion and desire to contribute to the betterment of the world by spreading the message that a state of well being is for everyone. No matter how old you are, or what stage you are in, or what you have been through, I believe that you can find your way back to the Wholeness that was always your birthright.  We are born magnificent beings but get conditioned into mediocrity. It is up to you to pick up the map to find your way back. And I'll help you anyway I can. "If you want to know the quality of what you radiate, just observe how people respond to you. They are your mirror." Gary Craig.

Have a great month!
