The Anatomy of Worry
The part of our brain that detects and alerts us to danger has been with us from the beginning. Fearless animals did not survive, so we can thank our primitive brain for the perpetuation of the species. No longer running from wild boars or foraging for food, the dangers in our 21st Century dangerous world are  very different indeed. In addition to physical threats of natural disasters and disease, our primitive brain alerts us constantly to the other threats that it perceives: fear we won't have enough, fear of what others may think of us, fear we are not good enough. On and on it goes. Images on TV send a clear message that the world is not a safe place. Have you heard yourself say things like, "I'm worried sick over this", or "I'm worried to death over that"? We live in such stressful times that the stress response, which is supposed to be a short lived reaction to prepare us to "flee or fight" has turned into a perpetual cascade of neuropeptides and hormones that keep us in a constant state of stress. This not only feels awful, it paves the way to a weakened immune system and eventual illness.

Dissecting a worry-mindset reveals a "what if?" kind of thinking. When we worry, are we not asking a "what if" question? When we worry, we conjure up all kinds of scary scenarios. We believe that with sufficient worrying, we might affect the outcome, as if worry itself had that kind of power.  And as we all know, all the worry in the world never has the power to change a thing. The genesis of worry is a very real belief that we have no power to control events in our life. Powerlessness is one of the worst feelings we can run with. Remaining in worry mode keeps the rational cool calm collected part of our brain from being able to make well thought out decisions that will help us thorough any ordeal we find ourself in.

When we worry, it also implies that we do not fully trust in the Higher Power of our lives, the Spirit that really has it all under control. If we really 100% trusted that from a higher spiritual perspective, all is well, we would never spend a minute in worry. We would look at life and everything it brings with it as lessons in life-school, that is all.  One of the things we need to remember that trials in life come to everyone, no one arrives with exemption papers. So when real events come up, instead of worrying, try praying. But be careful how you pray. A prayer that dictates out what you want in self-designed specifics limits the intelligence and power of the Universe. Pray instead for the grace to endure whatever comes your way. Pray for the best and highest intention, for you and everyone involved. And then let your prayer go out to the Universe where it will be heard.

It is possible to dismantle a worry mind-set, but it takes effort and perseverance. Worry becomes automatic over time. Some suggestions to break the habit of worry: Turn off the news. it's designed to keep you in fear mode. Write out your worries in a letter to God, and place them in a God-Box. Let go and trust that you don't have to handle everything alone.  Don't absorb other people's worries. Purchase the book, "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie" and lastly, consider adding some EFT to your life to "tap away" the worried thoughts that are causing so much stress.

Do you know anyone in pain? Do you know anyone who can't get restful sleep? Do you know anyone who needs better energy focus and stamina? If so, tell them about Cieura Holographic Chips. The chips are not new to athletes. As an alternative to steroid use, athletes like Johnny Damon and Ray Lewis have been using holographic chips along with a long list of golfers, NFL and MLB players for the past three years. No longer reserved for just athletes, Cieaura emerged in order to make these chips available to everyone. There are three versions of chips and they vary according to the specific vibratory energies embedded in the chip. One is for restful sleep, one is for focus and energy and one for pain. Their technology is patent pending. 

There was a time when it took days to communicate to the other side of the world. Technology advanced to the point that we can now communicate instantly. So, can't we apply that to healing as well? Maybe healing does not have to take "time" but can happen quickly. Technology to advance "natural healing" is something that should be welcomed by all.

flu shotFlu Shot? Or NOT?
It's that time of year again. The opportunity to get a flu shot is everywhere you look. For $25.00 you can even get one at the local Walgreens or CVS. Many people don't think twice because they have been conditioned to believe that by merely getting a flu shot therein lies an automatic bubble of protection from flu. At this point in time, flu shots remain optional, and you certainly are free to make your own decision, but before you run out and get jabbed, please read this and then do a little research for yourself.

With all of the vigor and encouragement to get a flu shot, consider these statistics. Every year 910,000 people die from heart disease, 7.6 million die from cancer, 160,000 die from stroke, 180,000 die from diabetes. With these appalling statistics in a country that spends 3 trillion dollars on health care, you have to wonder why there is so much push and emphasis to inoculate everyone, when 1,806 people a year die from the flu!! Although the CDC reported 36,000 deaths, when the numbers were broken down, only 1,806 died from the flu, and the rest died of pneumonia. As I have stressed many times, the P word, prevention is not emphasized enough in our health care system. If we funneled some money into wellness and prevention programs, teaching people how to increase their own natural immunity to illness, we might just move out of the embarrassing 39th place ranking as to how healthy we are as a nation compared to the rest of the world. Many health care professionals are now understanding that a flu shot alone cannot guarantee you a flu-free winter.

Health authorities travel to Asia in January to find the flu strains they believe will be active this winter. The flu shot you get today was created with material that was active earlier this year. Since viruses are constantly mutating, there is no certainty that if by chance you come into contact with a mutated form of the virus, your flu shot will protect you.

Flu vaccines also contain formaldehyde, thimerasol (think mercury) and a variety of other toxins including aluminum, triton, phenol and ethyl glycol (think antifreeze) By the way the insert for FLULAVA states "...there have been no controlled trials demonstrating a decrease in influenza after vaccinating with FLULAVA." You will also see on the package insert that the vaccine carries 25 mcg of Thimerasol, which is 250 times the EPA's legal allowance for humans.

Please read this very informative article written by Dr. Mercola. And then consider if you still want to get a shot. Your other option is to perhaps start making a few simple changes in order to PREVENT getting sick. If your immune system, which is your body's own first line of defense is running optimally, chances are you will resist becoming a host to the many viruses and bacteria you are exposed to on a daily basis.

Defend yourself naturally: Eat food that looks like food and begin to eliminate the chemicalized and processed food that really is not food at all. Toss out those destructive soft drinks and avoid artificial sweeteners like aspartame and splenda. Exercise and get fresh air and sunlight. Drink plenty of water, alkaline and ionized is the absolute best. Take a Vitamin D3 supplement daily, and a good Omega 3 Fish Oil. Take a whole food multivitamin/multimineral supplement everyday. Remember to wash your hands. Learn how to decrease your reactivity to stress in your life, laugh a lot, love a lot and think good and healthy thoughts. Consider getting a health counselor to help you and support you on your path to natural health. Your health is your responsibility, not the government's.

Fibro Aid - an ongoing support group for people in chronic pain
This is an ongoing group that is co-led by myself and Dr. William Savanin, a psychiatrist at Metrowest Medical Center. This group is supportive and educational, solution based, and integrates complementary and alternative therapies along with traditional psychotherapy. Most insurances are accepted. Women in Transition 
This weekly support group is designed to assist women through a period of transformation and empower them to move life forward, becoming self directed, self motivated and self confident in the process. This group may be helpful if you are going through divorce or separation, career change, empty nest, mid-life blues, lack of energy, feeling stuck, or unable to manage stress. This is a future oriented,solutions based approach that includes nutritional and life-style coaching along with stress management techniques.
