Devising deceit against those living quietly in the land

The campaign for President of the United States in now officially in full swing. The Daily Jot will not endorse a candidate, but will provide commentary from time to time on issues related to morality, that have Biblical importance or prophetic relevance. This installment of The Daily Jot centers on the current occupier of the Oval Office and his first major campaign swing into the Midwest, America's heartland. The crowds have not been shown by the news media, because they have been sparse, I'm told. And some of the people have been quite angry about the direction this nation has taken since the president took office. The president was confronted about his vice president calling TEA Party members "terrorists."

According to ABC News, the president was holding a town meeting when Ryan Rhodes, a TEA Party group leader in Iowa, stood up and asked the president how he can call for more civility when "your vice president is calling people like me, a Tea Party member, a 'terrorist.'" The president answered another question then addressed Rhodes, saying, "First of all, in fairness to this gentleman who raised a question, I absolutely agree that everybody needs to try to tone down the rhetoric. Now, in fairness, since I've been called a socialist who wasn't born in this country, who is destroying America and taking away its freedoms because I passed a health care bill, I'm all for lowering the rhetoric."

After the town meeting, an ABC News video shows the president with his back to the camera facing a very thin crowd of people about three deep with people milling about in the background. He is shaking hands when he is confronted by a young man who asked him why the vice president called TEA Party members "terrorists." The president denied that his vice president referred to them as "terrorists." A young woman took him to task for his administration's continuing characterization of God-fearing, fiscal and social conservatives as "right wing extremists" and "terrorists." The president tried to remain calm, but then another man also started asking him about it. They all were respectful, but firm.

Another man also made a case for a balanced budget. To which the president replied, "It doesn't sound like your interested in listening." The man said, "You don't listen either." In a way, it does sound like the president has listened. He recognizes that many Americans believe him to be, in his own words, "a socialist who wasn't born in this country, who is destroying America and taking away its freedoms..." Trouble is, while the president may not like this characterization, he has done nothing to dispel it. All the while, he and his administration are demonizing those who disagree with him. Proverbs 35:20 says, "For they speak not peace, but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land."
