Monday, January 24, 2011 The Word of God and the prophetic implication of religion and politics My dad, a very wise man used to advise me that if I want to keep friends not "to talk about religion and politics." But when you feel the calling of the Lord to discuss the prophetic nature of current events, both religion and politics come to the forefront. There is no exception with the takeover of the U.S. House of Representatives by the Republican Party. There is great debate whether the Republican Party represents the tenets of the Bible better than the Democratic Party. On issues like abortion, homosexuality, freedom of religion and freedom of speech, the answer is quite clear. Democrats would argue that on social issues, however, they hold the upper hand. Let them argue. The Bible should be the standard. The Republicans have done well since they were elected as the majority party to vote to overturn socialized medicine in this nation. Its not about the good or the bad it does, but rather about the overriding implications of making the government the life giver and taker with its vast taxpayer funded resources. Socialism and communism believe that the government is God, and these systems want people to look toward the government for their food, clothing, and shelter. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Of course, for that to work in a nation like ours, Christians must be doing their evangelistic job as well. Some Republicans are now moving toward defunding parts of the American support for the United Nations. Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is moving to have the UN Human Rights Council defunded because she says, its "a waste of taxpayer dollars." The Republicans are also going to put a full court press on any taxes that would come as a result of the bad science of global warming. All this is well and good and it makes headlines and it gives some people hope that the attack on Constitutional freedoms and promotion of the one world order will slow for a bit. Jesus told us, however, in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." There is a big double edged sword here. Everyone should ask the question: Are the Republicans doing these things for show or are they going to actually be committed to what they are doing? The "for show" part is the media and votes it generates. But if they really wanted to repeal socialized health care or abortion, they must go beyond passing a measure that will surely be killed in the Senate and at the White House. Are the Republicans going to do what it takes, even to the point of shutting down the government, to actually achieve more than window dressing? My guess is they do not have the political will to do it. If only they had the Biblical will to know and to do what is right, their political will would follow.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
