Title: I Am One Who Lives Her Dreams
Personal Tool Kit for Coping with the Recession:
Reclaiming your Power

1. Take inventory of what is working in your life and take care of it;
nurture what you do have including people, places and things.
2. Let go of anything that you no longer use, need or want....no matter what.
3. For low cost entertainment, have friends over for pot luck dinners; listen
to or make music, watch movies together.
4. Be present with yourself; practice your breathing and
 relaxation/biofeedback techniques.
5. Enlarge your vision for what awaits you in the future;
do not allow the state of the economy to limit the state of your being.
6. Remember, this is a new day, a new beginning and presents new
opportunities for you; be awake to them.
7. Keep your capacity to receive open; continue to give as well, maybe with
 your time and caring.
8. Check your pulse; if you are alive there is hope...and ..all will be well.
9. Do not let your heart or spirit be broken, but break your heart open to the
goodness that is still all around you each day.
10. Limit the amount of time you spend with the media each day....they
usually make it seem much worse than it is.

The Importance of Breakfast

Breakfast Cereal     If you are someone who thinks skipping breakfast will help you lose weight, think again! Studies show that breakfast, especially a cereal breakfast, is associated with better weight control.

Breakfast eaters tend to eat fewer calories, less saturated fat and cholesterol and have better overall nutritional status than breakfast skippers....What is the link? When you skip breakfast, your metabolic rate slows down and your blood sugar drops. As a result, you become hungry and have less energy. This sets you up to impulsively snack in the morning, often on high-fat sweets, or to eat extra servings or bigger portions at lunch or dinner.

When you eat breakfast, your body feels nourished and satisfied, making you less likely to overeat the rest of the day.

Like An Orchid in the Desert

Part 3: Soul Art
Feeding the Soul completes the connection:
 Mind-Body-Spirit (as you understand it)
( I am writing this on Easter morning 2008)
Many sensitive orchid type people are inherently creative, though not necessarily artistic.

"It is a paradox of creative recovery that we must get serious about taking ourselves lightly. We must work at learning to play. Creativity must be freed from the narrow parameters of capital A art and recognized as having much broader play...Creativity begins in darkness... when we say we want to be creative, we mean that we want to be able to be productive. Now, to be creative is to be productive. But by cooperating with the creative process, not forcing it....[1]

A creative person is someone who is able to change their own life, to be in charge of it, to make it work for them. Doing things you love to do (and even getting paid for them....), helps to nurture this quality; it leads to personal satisfaction and fulfillment which becomes inspiration for the lives of others. It determines how a person will "spend" their energy. This life energy is very valuable; in fact it is priceless and many times when lost cannot be easily retrieved. This time to do what you love, is now; and it is always now. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi discusses how to enhance creativity by first defining it's obstacles:

THE FOUR MAJOR OBSTACLES TO CREATIVITY[2]
1.      Personal exhaustion from too many demands; having trouble getting hold of  & activating our psychic energy.
2.      Easily distracted; trouble learning how to protect & channel whatever energy we have.
3.      Laziness or lacking discipline for controlling the flow of energy
4.      Not knowing what to do with the energy one has.

Focus would then appear to be important here. Identifying what you need to do; what you uniquely must do to take care of yourself. This self care may look different from what your partner, spouse, parents, children, colleagues or friends need to do.....you must create your own barometer here based upon your own perceptions and experience. Many Orchid in the Desert type people have learned to ignore or mistrust their own intuition about many things; it is this self-doubt that injures the body, mind and the soul. I invite you to reclaim your right to feel comfortable, safe and peaceful in this life by doing whatever is necessary to take care of yourself.

"If I am not for myself, who will be for me?.." [3]

This is not a selfish stance, but one on self-preservation. If you take care of you now, you will be an asset and an inspiration to those around you.
