65, the new 39
65, the new 39: On the Fifth of May I become a legitimate Senior Citizen, a 65 year old adult male, right at the head of the Baby Boomer class. Where did the time go? Good grief, I was just confirmed, wasn't I, there at Christ Memorial in Milwaukee?
At the same time, on June 12, I will celebrate my 39th year of ordination into the Office of the Holy Ministry. 39 years of baptisms, sermons, celebrations of the Lord's Supper, confirmation classes, meshed with almost 20 years as a District President give me more specific memories than my brain can handle, and yet all those recollections are in there and available.
So for me, 65 is the new 39. Not a bad deal, if only my body would cooperate.

A Message from the Southern District -
|
- In regard to the tornadoes in Alabama and Mississippi -
Dear Friends in Christ, Once again the Southern District has been reminded of the precious life and hope we have in the risen Lord Jesus. I know many of you are anxiously awaiting news on our brothers and sisters in Mississippi and Alabama . We continue to collect information. Here is what we have so far:
- We have no news of fatalities of any congregational members.
- Some homes of members of our congregations have sustained major damage.
- No major damage has been reported of any homes of our church workers.
- Thus far, there has been only one report of major damage to church and school buildings, that being St. Paul 's in Cullman , AL. Both their church and school buildings have received major damage.
We are still in the search and rescue phase and will update you with the needs of those affected. Please ready your people to volunteer to respond and click here to provide the information requested. We continue to pray for all who have been affected. May they know the love of Jesus through our hearts and hands. The LORD gives strength to His people; the LORD blesses His people with peace. The focus of the LCF is the creation and enhancement of innovative programs that benefit Christian institutions and support people and organizations in times of significant crisis or need. To date, over $1,400,000 has been awarded to 300 deserving organizations through the LCF.

| From Task Force 6- Communications: Announces Mini-Grants | |
The Communications Task Force (TF #6) would like to help congregations and ministries communicate better with mini-grants of $500 to $1,000. We have money allotted for several grants in the 2011 Budget Year.
Are there areas your congregation or ministry that may need help to better communicate within your community or with your neighborhood and the world? Would a small grant help get things started? Send your communications requests by June 30th to Kristen.Schulz@ad-lcms.org . We will use the list of requests to create a funding application for TF#6 Ablaze mini-grants.
Our hope is that congregations and ministries will apply for these small funding or pro bono assistance opportunities to better communicate the Gospel of Hope. But before we know what to offer, we need to know what you need!

| From Task Force 7- Church Worker Wellness | We are continuing with the series of articles written by John Eckrich, MD, the Executive Director of Grace Place Retreats. Click here to read the article on "Fiscal Well Being". As I noted last month, I was privileged to attend a Grace Place Retreat for the wives of District Presidents last June. Dr. Eckrich is not only knowledgeable in the medical field, but a deeply spiritual man concerned with the well being of our LCMS church workers (and spouses!) The title of this on-going series of articles is "Living and Serving Gracefully". Coming up next month - "Social Well Being".
Again, I would also like to encourage pastors to subscribe to an on-line newsletter from the LCMS. It's called A Pastoral Touch and is written by Rev. John Fale, Interim Executive Director of World Relief and Human Care Ministries. To subscribe to A Pastoral Touch, register online at www.lcms.org/enews. | Lutherans for Life 2011 Conference | |
Lutherans For Life is hosting their 2011 National Conference in Irving, Texas, August 5-6, 2011 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel DFW. The conference theme is Adopted in Christ.
The conference will focus on helping participants grow in their understanding of what it means to be Adopted in Christ and how this action of our heavenly Father affects our relationships with one another and the manner in which we deal with life issues in our congregations. We pray the conference will also equip attendees with knowledge on the positive aspects of earthly adoption and with skills to raise awareness of this in their congregations. The conference will be God's children learning and growing together so they can help others better understand what it means to be a child of God!

Lutheran Songwriters' Initiative
| |
Concordia Publishing House has released the Lutheran Songwriters' Initiative. Pastors, musicians, and laity can discover, listen, and download 15 different songs that sing about the sacraments of God.
This is the direct result of the Songwriters' Conference held in April of 2010. This initiative, which is free to The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, will be on line for 90 days. Responses would be welcomed as CPH considers future publishing models to support the development of songs that are faithful to the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.

LCMS Website Has a New Look!
| On Easter Monday, LCMS.org unveiled a fresh look with great new features and easy-to-find designed to help visitors more easily connect with the church.
Highlights of the new website include:
- Easier navigation - Web pages are organized in a consistent and intuitive way, making it easier to use the site.
- Centralized location for resources - Timely, useful and pertinent materials for work, home and church are much easier to find.
- Brand new media gallery - For the first time, our vast collections of photos, videos and audio files are gathered in one place for easy accessibility.
- Easier to give - Donors can give online, track their giving and print receipts.
- More customization - Visitors can create a user "My LCMS" profile to update personal information, manage subscriptions and receive tailored information.
- Easier to connect - The new site features direct links to LCMS social media pages, blogs and contact sources, plus the ability to "like" articles and share content with others.
- Consolidated newsroom - The latest news and information about LCMS people, missions and ministries is centralized and easy to access.
- Document library - Our rich collection of documents, applications, forms and news releases are now housed in one searchable library.
The redesigned and streamlined site will retain many of its most popular features, including the FAQs; worship resources; and church, school and church-worker locators.
We believe LCMS.org - a powerful resource for supporting the Synod's emphasis on witness, mercy and life together - will help all of us better communicate by word and deed the love of Jesus Christ from a Lutheran perspective throughout the world.
Please help us spread the word about the new and improved LCMS.org by sharing this information with your district and school colleagues, family and friends.
