Letter from the President
Dr. David Benke
Don't Tempt Me

This will be one tardy Lenten season, won't it?  We don't even get started until well into March, and the finish line is way out there toward the end of April.   But the first Sunday in Lent, no matter when it arrives, immediately follows our Christian commitment to take the journey to the cross with Jesus on Ash Wednesday.  And the Gospel lesson always forces us to face the reality of temptation.

We all have our weaknesses.  Holes in the soul where we're vulnerable.  Chinks in the armor.  And when temptation comes alluring, the holes and chinks feel big enough to drive a truck through.  And on a personal level, we all have fallen, and some of us have fallen hard.  At those moments we realize two things:  the weakness and mortality of our human nature, and the invaluable depth of riches of the grace and mercy of God in granting forgiveness as we repent of our failures.  For as we read, Christ was tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin, without falling, so that His life in us might prevail when we face our temptations.  Depend on Jesus.  Depend on Jesus.  Abide in Christ and in His Word.

Seminar Led by Dr. Bruce Hartung

"Grace in the Pastor-Parish Dance"

Saturday, March 26, 2011

9:30am - 2:30pm

at Concordia College - New York

What does a healthy, God-honoring relationship between a pastor and congregation look like? The foundation of a contagiously joyful and effective congregational ministry is rooted in a good and grace-filled relationship between parish members and pastoral leaders, but how does that happen? In this seminar, Concordia Seminary's Dr. Bruce Hartung will lead participants through presentation, discussion, and group activities to discover where and how pastors and their "flocks" can grow in relationship to build a stronger, holistic, and more mission-driven community of faith!
