Letter from the President
Dr. David BenkeWhere's the Surprise?

Advent being our season of incredible expectation in a world gone economically sour and techie hyper, what does it take to get the motor running in 2010?  What does it take to surprise us about the Coming of the King named Jesus?

Would it take a stack of $20s under the tree?  Would it take a couple of Tweets about unforgettable choir concerts?  Would it take an E-vite to a Facebook "Like Jesus' Birthday Party?"

It's a brave new world out there in 2010, and with a decadal downward trend of 20% in Sunday worship attendance across denominations, maybe folks have moved on to more exciting weekend adventures, or less commitment-based obligations than the annual parish stewardship campaign.  Everything's up for grabs.

Except this one thing.  Way back in the day  a young woman, not married but engaged, became pregnant.

Wartburg Changes Its Name to The Lutheran Care Network
Formerly Wartburg Lutheran Services, TLC Network Better
Positioned for Growth in Senior Care Services

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Nov. 24 - Wartburg Lutheran Services announces that its Board of Directors has voted to change the name of the non-profit organization to The Lutheran Care Network.

TLC Network operates a network of 11 skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, adult care homes, community housing, independent living apartments, and home care services in New York, spanning from Long Island to the Hudson Valley to the Albany, N.Y., Capital District.

The Board of Directors changed the name to better reflect the organization's full-range of elderly care services, according to President and CEO Frank Tripodi. "We are a network of services, that cares for people at all stages of aging, whether they can live independently on their own, need some home-care assistance, or require the care of a skilled nursing center. We care for seniors all along their journey. They can grow with us and age in place."
