Letter from the President
Dr. David BenkeMaking the Partnership Personal

As the tensions and expectations are heightened in this week prior to the national convention of the Missouri Synod, the dynamics of the apostolic leadership of Peter and Paul are of great assistance in keeping the Body of Christ focused on its primary responsibilities.  Peter expresses our own heart-and-soul-deep expression of faith that suffuses all our actions, doesn't he - "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!"  Yes!  That is what I believe and know.  That is what has been placed in my heart by the power of Holy Baptism.  That is what WE, together, confess in its most basic form. And that confession is Rock-solid and extends from and to the farthest reaches of heaven and hell.  Nothing can beat that truth down. Nothing.  Christ remains.  Our anchor holds.

At the same time, Paul helps us to understand that our destiny, to be in and with Christ forever, involves us in active engagement with the principalities and powers not only at life's end, but every day in bringing the joy of Jesus to human hearts.

MUSLIM OUTREACH LAY BIBLE INSTITUTE RESCHEDULED
Concordia Seminary has rescheduled its Lay Bible Institute for Saturday, August 7, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on the topic of Muslim outreach. This workshop will be led by Dr. John Loum, director of the Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology (EIIT), who has worked among Muslims in Europe, Africa, and the United States for more than 20 years.

Participants will be provided with a unique perspective on one of the fastest growing religions in America. One year ago, the Pope publicly recognized Islam and the Muslims by stating, "There are more Muslims in the world than Roman Catholics." This public acknowledgment has reinvigorated the Muslim community in its outreach efforts. Consequently, Muslims in America have been approaching Christians of all backgrounds with the full intent of conversion. Countless Christians are embracing Islam each year in America. This has serious implications for the Christian faith and the proclamation of the Gospel. The sessions will include various topics on Islam and what you need to know about your Muslim neighbors, co-workers, or even the Muslim your child may date in the future. All denominations are welcome to this workshop.

The cost for the Lay Bible Institute is $20, plus $6.50 for an optional lunch ticket in the Seminary's dining hall. The deadline to register is July 25. To register or for more information, contact Continuing Education and Parish Services at 314-505-7486 or ce@csl.edu.

'MISSION U': A Powerful New Resource for Outreach Training
from Lutheran Hour Ministries

This summer, Lutheran Hour Ministries is launching an exciting new resource to help individuals strengthen their daily witness and provide congregations with powerful tools to reach out in their communities. It's called MISSION U, and it's designed to help energize Lutheran Christians and revolutionize how they share their faith.

MISSION U, as its name suggests, will have the feel of a 21st-century university: seminar-style presentations, in-class and online student interaction, expert speakers featured in person and in distance-learning settings, and take-home study resources and practice springing from a carefully crafted curriculum.

The foundation of MISSION U will be LHM's popular witnessing course, Equipping to Share: Everyday Evangelism, which has been incorporated into MISSION U as MU-101. Equipping to Share has been presented more than 400 times over the last five years and has trained more than 17,000 individuals in the use of practical witnessing strategies.

Other MISSION U course offerings will be "MU-102. Witnessing Methods: Seven Styles of Faith-sharing"; "MU-201. Dealing with Tough Questions"; "MU-202. The Outreach-minded Church: Unified Vision and Mission"; and "MU-301. 'Christ Alone' in a Coexist World." Additional courses will be developed and offered in response to ongoing analysis of equipping needs across the church.

The educational outcomes of MISSION U will be achieved through take-home assignments that encourage hands-on practice of the concepts presented in the materials. A monthly Web broadcast will be held for follow-up training; "online office hours" will be held twice a month for questions and student discussion.

To learn more about MISSION U or to schedule a workshop, please contact Sarah Guldalian, Manager of Evangelism Training, at 1-800-944-3450, ext. 4144. Sarah can also be contacted via e-mail at equipping@lhm.org.

New Stations Reach Broader Audience in Four States
with 'The Lutheran Hour' in Spanish

In June, Lutheran Hour Ministries added new AM and FM outlets to expand the reach of Para el Camino, LHM's Spanish-language version of The Lutheran Hour®. Three stations in Texas, four stations in Georgia, and one station each in Alabama and South Carolina now include Para el Camino in their lineup to provide quality Christian programming for Spanish-speaking listeners.

Para el Camino is the core of Lutheran Hour Ministries' multifaceted package of resources for outreach to people whose heart language is Spanish. The program features Rev. Hector Hoppe, the voice of Para el Camino, and selected guest speakers. As with The Lutheran Hour program, the clear Gospel message on Para el Camino is available not only over the radio but also via streamed online audio, downloadable MP3 audio, or downloadable text.

Lutheran Hour Ministries also offers Spanish-language translations of Pastor Ken Klaus's Daily Devotions (Devociones Diarias) and Spanish-language Project Connect topical booklets.

To learn more about Para el Camino, find a station that airs the program, or subscribe to Devociones Diarias, visit www.paraelcamino.com. To consult an LHM team member about airing Para el Camino in your area, call LHM's Syndication department at 1-800-944-3450. To learn about LHM's Project Connect materials in Spanish, visit www.lhm.org/projectconnect.
