Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart
Tuesday, October 20, 2009, dawned a clear day in New York City, with an
absolutely spectacular sunrise. I drove into our Witness in the Public
Square event early on the Long Island Expressway through Queens.
There's a point at which you pop up to the top of an overpass and there
- whoosh! - the city skyline magically appears as if it's been thrust
up through the ground toward the heavens. On Tuesday the sun sparkled
roses on the skyscrapers. Pink, red, orange and yellow dappled up
through the windows all the way to the spires on the Empire State and
Chrysler landmarks.
At the same moment my eyes caught those tones, my
ears were tuned in to a beautiful Gospel version of the Agnus Dei.
"Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us."
Thinking of the day ahead, I was moved, touched and convinced as I am
every new morning that the blessing of the Lord would be shining on me,
on us. And blessed we were. And are.

Transforming Congregations Network (TCN)
|
We are excited about the Transforming Churches Network, or
TCN for short. We are gearing up for some Consultations in the Fall on Long Island and are also excited about the Pastors and
Leaders Learning Communities which are springing up around the District. The
purpose of TCN is to transform existing congregations into ones that are
regularly and consistently "making new disciples who make new disciples."
Please pray regularly for TCN - include it in your
private prayer life and also in the public worship life of your church. Please
suggest to you prayer group or prayer chain that they pray regularly for TCN
that many churches be transformed and many new folks be brought into the kingdom of God.

An Invitation to Join the District's "Stop, Drop & Pray" Team
|
"We do not make requests from you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act!" Daniel 9:18-19
Do you believe in God's power through prayer to dramatically increase the effectiveness of our mission and kingdom work? Are you a member of the Atlantic District Mission Society's "Stop, drop and pray" network? If not, I invite you to join our prayer team today in seeking out God's blessing and provision for all our outreach efforts. We seek to faithfully partner with the Lord in the essential work of extending the kingdom of God on earth. To enroll, simply contact me at carol.mittelstaedt@ad-lcms.org or call me at 914-337-5700, ext. 6.
When you join "Stop, drop and pray," you'll receive a free weekly E-Letter reminding you to stop what you are doing and take time out to pray for specific mission projects and events throughout the District. As you read through the weekly prayers you will add your voice to others asking God's help for our missionaries and church members so that they may Engage the World with the Gospel of Hope and bring the knowledge and love of Christ Jesus to the unchurched in their communities.
We would love to pray for your special project, too! If your congregation is engaged in an outreach initiative or has a special event planned, please let me know so that I can add it to our prayers.
Blessings!
