Letter from the President
The Brooklyn Circuit, north division, has its own way of doing things. Rather than having pastors switch pulpits during Lent, the people switch parishes. So for five weeks Missouri Synod Lutherans make pilgrimage up and down Bushwick Avenue, gathering for worship, prayer, penitence, healing and of course food. This year the theme was "Behold, the Lamb of God."

What a privilege it has been to hear the Gospel proclaimed, sung and prayed around the exclamation made at the exact beginning of Christ's pilgrimage by His forerunner. As Holy Week and the eventual arrival of the season of the Resurrection take our attention in April, what a comfort to know that Christ was, and is, and shall ever be, the Lamb of God.

Transforming Congregations Network (TCN)
We are excited about the Transforming Churches Network, or TCN for short. We are gearing up for some Consultations in the Fall on Long Island and are also excited about the Pastors and Leaders Learning Communities which are springing up around the District. The purpose of TCN is to transform existing congregations into ones that are regularly and consistently "making new disciples who make new disciples."

Please pray regularly for TCN - include it in your private prayer life and also in the public worship life of your church. Please suggest to you prayer group or prayer chain that they pray regularly for TCN that many churches be transformed and many new folks be brought into the kingdom of God.

ATLANTIC DISTRICT LUTHERAN WOMEN'S MISSIONARY LEAGUE

Mission Grant Update:

Mission Grant #8 - Concordia College's Fortress Grant Fund - $2,000
PRAISE THE LORD! This mission grant has been fully funded.

Mission Grant #9 - Boy's Foster Home in South India - $4,000
This foster home for boys began in 2002 as a result of Atlantic District donations for Tsunami Relief.  Many of these boys lost one parent in the Tsunami. Three boys come from a fishing village that was devastated. Although brought up Hindu, all have been taught to pray Christian prayers to start and end each day and at meals, and all attend Sunday worship at the local Lutheran church. While Tsunami support is almost depleted, we are committed to these 18 boys until they graduate the public high school they attend across the street from the home (sponsored by Janet George/Judy Benke - Health and Human Care Task Force, Atlantic District).  We need $3,078.73 in mite donations to pay Grant #9.

Continue to send your mite money to Virginia Wirsing, Financial Secretary, 4 Garden Lane, Yaphank, NY 11980. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

SAVE THE DATE...SAVE THE DATE...SAVE THE DATE...

LOOK! Look at the calendar! Only two months until we hear the majestic music of the opening service at the 2009 LWML convention in Portland, until the beautiful district banners triumphantly enter the assembly hall, and until we join with thousands of our LWML sisters in prayer and praise to Look to the Hills...God Reigns.

Have you made your travel plans? Now is the time to finalize your plans to be part of the LWML convention June 25-28, 2009! The registration deadline is mid-May. You don't want to miss strolling through Evergreen Park, the exhibit area, or helping at the Servant Connection. It's also time to get in shape for "Mission in Motion," the pledge walk that includes two walking trails to raise money for missions along with a low/no impact exercise option. All contributions go toward our LWML mite goal, so start obtaining those pledges now.  The pledge form is available at www.lwml.org.
