ISO 9000ISO/IAF Outlines Transition Plan to ISO 9000:2008 - How Will This Affect You?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) have agreed on an implementation plan for transition of accredited certification to ISO 9001: 2008.

How will this affect your ISO 9001:2000 certification?  Well, ISO 9001:2008, which is due to be published before the end of the year, will replace the year 2000 version of the standard.  But ISO 9001: 2008 introduces no new requirements - It only adds clarifications to the existing requirements of ISO 9001: 2000 based on eight years of experience.

So does your company have to get re-certified to the upgraded standard? Not exactly.  According to the press release announcing this upgrade: Certification of conformity to ISO 9001:2008 and/or national equivalents shall only be issued after official publication of ISO 9001:2008, which should take place before the end of 2008, and after a routine surveillance or recertification audit against ISO 9001:2008Twenty-four months after publication by ISO of ISO 9001:2008, any existing certification issued to ISO 9001:2000 shall not be valid.

With hundreds of satisfied clients and established Registrar relationships, CMC can help your company to pass a a routine surveillance or recertification audit against ISO 9001:2008 standards.  Contact us for more information.
Take your Organization Green!

Many companies and organizations have inquired about "going green."  One answer is to implement ISO 14000.

Go Green with ISO 14000ISO 14000 is a series of international standards that address environmental issues.  The purpose of this standard is to help diverse organizations protect the environment-to prevent pollution-and to improve their overall environmental performance.  In other words, it is what an organization does to:
  • Minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities, and to
  • Achieve continual improvement of its environmental performance

ISO 14001:2004 is an environmental management standard that defines a set of Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements.

ISO 14000 specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy; determining environmental aspects and impacts of products, activities and services; planning environmental objectives and setting measurable targets; implementation and operation of programs to meet the objectives and targets; auditing and corrective action, and environmental management review.

And implementing ISO 14000 is good for the bottom line too!  Aside from improving your organizational image and gaining goodwill, you will become more competitive, reduce wastes, reduce litigations risks, cut waste disposal costs, decrease insurance premiums and enhance operational efficiency.
